MAKARA is a diving and freediving center located in Dahab, one of the world's freediving meccas in the Egyptian Red Sea. The center is situated on Meleel Street and offers direct access to some of the healthiest and most diverse reefs in the Red Sea, a region known for its crystal-clear waters and rich marine biodiversity.
Regarding dive training, MAKARA offers a complete range of PADI courses spanning from discover scuba (€85) to the professional Divemaster level. Certification courses include Open Water (€375, 3 days), Advanced Open Water (€325, 2 days), and specialties such as Deep Diver (€225), Nitrox (€245), and Rescue Diver + EFR (€540, 4 days). The Divemaster program runs for 5 weeks and requires direct consultation with the center.
One of MAKARA's main strengths is its specialization in freediving, offering AIDA courses from the introductory AIDA 1 level (€110, 1 day, up to 10m) to the advanced AIDA 3 (€370, 3 days). The AIDA 2 course (€325, 3 days) allows reaching 20 meters depth and includes safety protocols, apnea physiology, and breathing techniques. Additionally, the center offers training programs for certified freedivers, with individual sessions (€40) or weekly (€230) and bi-weekly (€430) packages.
MAKARA's team is led by Koldo Munarriz (PADI instructor) and Irina Barberá (AIDA instructor and underwater photographer). The center stands out for its philosophy of conscious and respectful ocean diving, avoiding overcrowding and offering personalized attention to each diver. They also organize international dive trips, such as expeditions to the Philippines. Instruction languages are Spanish and English, making it an ideal option for Spanish-speaking divers in Egypt.
