The pool Try Scuba at Buddycheck is the lowest-friction entry point into scuba diving available here. Before getting in the water, participants go through a short briefing on equipment and basic techniques at the poolside. The session is supervised by an SSI-certified instructor throughout. Equipment is provided by the school — mask, fins, BCD, regulator, tank — so there's nothing to bring beyond a swimsuit and a medical declaration form, which needs to be completed in advance. At 34 EUR for the pool version, this is the most affordable way to find out whether scuba diving is something worth pursuing further. The Try Scuba Open Water version, held at the Sorpesee or Möhnesee, costs 59 EUR and gives a first taste of lake diving conditions rather than a controlled pool environment. For groups — corporate events, families, team-building — Buddycheck also organises Try Scuba sessions as a dedicated group activity, with multiple participants going through the experience together under instructor supervision.
SSI Open Water Diver
The SSI Open Water Diver at Buddycheck is the full entry-level certification, globally recognised and valid at SSI centres around the world. Theory is covered through SSI's online digital learning platform, which students can start immediately and work through at their own pace before the in-water sessions begin. Pool sessions take place at the Aquamathe in Letmathe (winter) or at the Heidebad and Schleddenhof outdoor pools (summer), depending on the time of year. Open-water dives to complete the certification are conducted at the Sorpesee and Möhnesee — the two local lakes that Buddycheck uses regularly for training and recreational diving.
