OPEN WATER

The SSI Open Water Diver course at Ocean Dreams Tenerife is their flagship recreational certification. The programme runs six theory sessions, five confined water sessions, and five open water dives — a structured progression that ends with a worldwide certification to dive in pairs to 18 m. The minimum age is 10 years, which SSI designates the Junior Open Water Diver. In practice, this makes the course viable for families visiting Tenerife who want a proper certification rather than a one-time experience dive. Open water sessions take place in the sea off Los Cristianos. At this level, the dive sites available include Palm-Mar Wall (25 m), Abades (two reefs, trumpetfish cave, turtles), and Las Eras (wall with swim-through) — all accessible at OWD or OWD/AOWD level. The water sits between 22 and 24°C with 30 m visibility, which helps with skills practice during the open water component. At €500, this is the full certification pathway. For students who can't complete the full OWD, Ocean Dreams also offers the Scuba Diver at €380 as an intermediate step, or the Basic Diver at €130 for a first experience without committing to certification.

BASIC DIVER

The Basic Diver programme at Ocean Dreams is a two-session introduction to scuba. The first session takes place in shallow water — controlled conditions where you get comfortable with the equipment before going further. The second session moves to open water, giving you real diving in the sea off Los Cristianos. This is the starting point for anyone who wants to try scuba without committing to a full certification track. It covers the fundamentals of breathing underwater, buoyancy control basics, and how to use the gear safely. Two dives, handled by an SSI-certified instructor. The south of Tenerife has calm, warm water — sea temperatures run between 22 and 24°C — which makes the open water component accessible even for people who have never put on a wetsuit before. Visibility at 30 m means you can actually see the seabed clearly during your first experience. At €130, this is also the same price as the Basic Diver package listed in their activities pricing for non-certified divers, which includes two dives with gear. For those who enjoy it, the progression path continues to the Scuba Diver or Open Water Diver courses at the same centre.

SCUBA DIVER

The Scuba Diver programme sits between the Basic Diver and the full Open Water Diver certification. It's designed for people who want to get properly trained but can't commit the time needed for the complete OWD course. The result is a diver certified to work under the direct supervision of a dive professional. At Ocean Dreams, this means you'll be trained by Jan Lambert, an SSI instructor who runs all levels from beginner through to technical. The south of Tenerife offers calm, warm water and 30 m visibility — conditions well suited to consolidating early skills before moving to open water dives. This certification has a practical ceiling: you dive with a professional present. For those who want independent diving rights, the Open Water Diver course at €500 is the next step and unlocks self-guided diving to 18 m worldwide. The Scuba Diver at €380 works well if you're short on days but want more than a one-off try dive.

ADVANCED ADVENTURER

The Advanced Adventurer course at Ocean Dreams covers five specialty introductions of your choice — the centre offers a range of specialisations and the specific options available can be confirmed on request. The course price of €255 is listed without dives, so dive costs are additional depending on which specialties you select. The point of this course is breadth: rather than going deep into one area, you get a proper introduction to five different directions you could take your diving. If you choose the deep specialisation, you gain the right to dive to 30 m — up from the 18 m limit at Open Water Diver level. At Ocean Dreams, several of their six named dive sites go to 35 m, which becomes accessible once you've completed the relevant specialties and achieved the Advanced Open Water certification through this track. Palm-Mar Cave, Abades, and Tabaiba all require at least AOWD level. The format also gives you a practical way to explore technical diving introductions — Navigation, Deep, Cavern — before committing to the full XR technical track, several of which list these specialties as prerequisites for entry.

DIVER STRESS & RESCUE

The SSI Diver Stress & Rescue course at Ocean Dreams is the safety and rescue level of the recreational track. Two theory sessions and four water sessions cover stress recognition, accident prevention, underwater first aid, and surface rescues. This course is a prerequisite for several other programmes at Ocean Dreams — the Technical Foundations, Decompression Procedures, Normoxic Trimix, Hypoxic Trimix, and both Divemaster and Assistant Instructor internships all require Diver Stress & Rescue before entry. That makes it a practical investment for anyone planning to go further technically or professionally. The water component at this level builds practical skills under realistic conditions. Los Cristianos offers calm water in the south of Tenerife, which keeps the focus on the technique rather than fighting conditions during rescue practice. At €375, it's one step below the Open Water Diver course in price, and it rounds out the recreational diver profile significantly — both for personal safety and as a gateway to higher-level courses at the same centre.

REACT RIGHT

React Right is a first aid and CPR course offered by Ocean Dreams — it's open to both divers and non-divers, which makes it unusual among the courses they list. The core content covers cardiopulmonary resuscitation (heart massage) and standard first aid protocols. The course can be extended to include training with an automatic defibrillator and pure oxygen administration for diving accident first aid. That extension is directly relevant for anyone diving at technical depths or working in a dive centre environment. At €185, this is the lowest-priced multi-session course in their catalogue. It functions as a standalone qualification or as a complement to the recreational and technical progression — several of the XR technical courses require Oxygen Provider certification, which aligns with the extended React Right content.

ADVANCED NITROX 40m

The Advanced Nitrox course is the entry point into Ocean Dreams' SSI Technical Extended Range programme. It opens up dives to 40 m with up to 15 minutes of decompression — the first step beyond recreational no-decompression limits. The curriculum runs through gas physics and physiology in more depth than recreational courses, followed by four no-decompression dives where you apply the theory and refine your equipment configuration. Jan Lambert, who holds SSI TXR trainer credentials, runs the technical programme. Entry requires an Enriched Air Nitrox certification, at least 24 logged dives (of which 6 or more must be with enriched air), and a minimum age of 18. This gates the course appropriately — you need practical nitrox experience before tackling the planning and gas management involved at this level. From here, the progression at Ocean Dreams continues through Technical Foundations (45 m), Decompression Procedures (55 m), and into trimix territory. The south of Tenerife, with sites like Palm-Mar Cave reaching 35 m, provides relevant training terrain for the no-decompression dives in this course.

NORMOXIC TRIMIX 67m

Normoxic Trimix extends the depth range to 67 m using helium-oxygen-nitrogen blends with a minimum 18% oxygen and maximum 30% helium. The helium addition cuts nitrogen narcosis — at 67 m, the cognitive load without helium is significant. Procedures at this level build on what was learned in Technical Foundations and Decompression Procedures, with the primary change being the introduction of helium gas planning and management. The decompression ceiling extends to 60 minutes. Entry requires Diver Stress & Rescue, TXR Decompression Procedures, Oxygen Provider, 75 logged dives, and 10 or more decompression dives. The depth and gas complexity make this appropriate only for divers who have worked through the full sequential TXR track. Jan Lambert holds SSI TXR certification, which covers the full technical range up to this level and beyond. Price is on request.

HYPOXIC TRIMIX 100m

The Hypoxic Trimix course is the top of the Ocean Dreams technical programme, with training dives to 100 m using hypoxic bottom mixes, travel gas, and high-oxygen decompression gases. Hypoxic mixtures — those with less than 21% oxygen — are required at these depths where surface-normal oxygen percentages become toxic. Gas planning at this level involves managing three or more distinct mixes across the dive profile: the hypoxic bottom gas, a normoxic travel gas for the ascent phase before the decompression stops, and high-oxygen decompression gases for the stops themselves. Entry requirements reflect the seriousness of the depth: 150 logged dives, at least 30 deeper than 30 m with two decompression stops, at least 10 deeper than 50 m with two gas changes, plus Normoxic Trimix 67m and Oxygen Provider. This is not a course for anyone who hasn't worked through the complete preceding technical pathway. Price is on request.

DECOMPRESSION PROCEDURES 55m

Decompression Procedures builds directly on Technical Foundations, extending the depth ceiling to 55 m with up to 45 minutes of staged decompression. The main addition is working with EAN50 or EAN80 as decompression gases — high-oxygen mixes that accelerate off-gassing during the stops. The course covers advanced gas management and team diving protocols in more depth than previous levels. At 55 m with multi-gas decompression, the planning workload increases significantly and the course treats that accordingly. Team coordination is a formal component here — how each member of the dive team manages their role to reduce collective risk. This matters in practice when you're running decompression stops at depth with different gases in the water. Entry requires 75 logged dives (or Technical Foundations certification plus 10 extended range dives), Advanced Open Water, Diver Stress & Rescue, Nitrox, Oxygen Provider, and Technical Foundations or equivalent. Price is on request.

DIVE GUIDE

The Divemaster internship at Ocean Dreams is structured in two phases. The first runs 10 days: everything a working divemaster needs to conduct dives and assist with courses. The second phase has no fixed end date — it builds practical experience in client communication, base and equipment maintenance, and compressor operation. Students average one month total. Ocean Dreams describes themselves as the only centre in Tenerife offering Divemaster internships with accommodation in their own diving hostel. The hostel is directly above the diving base, with shared rooms for up to 6 people, shared facilities, and a terrace with views of the beach and harbour. Teaching rights at this level include course assistance and participation in Open Water Diver and ecology programmes. You're not leading courses independently, but you're involved in running them — useful preparation for the Assistant Instructor step. Entry requires Advanced Open Water Diver, Diver Stress & Rescue, and 60 logged dives. Minimum age is 18. The €800 price covers the full internship; accommodation is separate and available through the hostel above the base.

ASSISTANT INSTRUCTOR

The Assistant Instructor internship is the last step before full instructor qualification in the SSI system. Like the Divemaster, it runs in two phases: a structured 7-day block covering how to lead courses with students and the basics of teaching theory, followed by an open-ended practical phase. Students average one month total here as well. Teaching rights at this level expand considerably: Try Scuba, Scuba Ranger (children from 8 years), Perfect Balancing specialization, course assistance, participation in the Open Water Diver course, and ecology programmes. The children's programme — Scuba Ranger from age 8 — is explicitly listed, making this qualification relevant for anyone planning to work in family-oriented centres. Entry requires Divemaster, Diver Stress & Rescue, 60 logged dives, and certifications in Deep Diving Specialisation, Navigation, or Cavern diving. Minimum age 18. The internship includes the same accommodation option as the Divemaster — the hostel above the diving base in Los Cristianos. At €1000, it's the highest-priced programme in the Ocean Dreams catalogue.

SSI Croossover

The SSI Crossover is aimed at divemasters and instructors already certified through another agency who want to add SSI credentials. Ocean Dreams runs it over 2 to 3 days, covering SSI standards, information systems, and tutorials. If needed, a water demonstration can be arranged — useful for instructors who need to show their teaching technique meets SSI requirements. The result is entry into the SSI professional network alongside your existing certification. At €400, this is targeted at working dive professionals rather than divers building toward a first professional qualification. It's a lateral move within the professional ecosystem rather than a progression step.

Gas Blender

The Gas Blender course teaches safe preparation of nitrox mixtures for both recreational and technical diving. Ocean Dreams offers it as part of their technical programme, which makes sense given that nitrox is a prerequisite input for multiple levels of the XR track. Entry requires Enriched Air Nitrox Diver certification and a minimum age of 18. The course covers mixing procedures and safety protocols for producing nitrox blends in a centre environment — the same type of gas management Ocean Dreams uses operationally for their nitrox fills (offered on site at €1.30 per litre, 22–34%). This is a niche qualification that has practical value for anyone working in or aspiring to work in a dive centre, or for technical divers who want to understand the gas they're breathing. Price is on request.

Technical Diving

Technical Foundations takes the diver to 45 m with up to 30 minutes of staged decompression. The main new skill here is working with a twin-valve cylinder or sidemount configuration, plus stage bottles for decompression gas — a significant equipment step from the recreational setup. Advanced dive planning is built into the course, covering gas management, decompression gas selection, and the logistics of multi-stage dives. Ocean Dreams runs this through the SSI TXR curriculum, with Jan Lambert as the TXR-rated instructor. Prerequisites are demanding: Advanced Open Water Diver, Diver Stress & Rescue, Enriched Air Nitrox, 50 logged dives, and existing certification in Deep Diving, Navigation, or Cavern diving. The entry bar is intentional — at 45 m with decompression obligations, there's limited margin for gaps in foundation skills. The course connects directly into Decompression Procedures (55 m) and the trimix pathway. The Canary Islands' clear water and the deeper profiles available around Tenerife's southern sites make this a practical location for training dives at this level.
