Baptême de plongée

The discover dive at CPS takes place in the pool at the Piscine de Sélestat, which serves as the club's home base for all initial water contact. Access to the pool is only possible under the supervision of at least an E1-level instructor, which means first-timers are always in qualified hands from the first breath underwater. The baptême is open to members, including minors who have parental authorization and a medical certificate of non-contraindication on file. The format follows FFESSM federation standards, as required by the club's affiliation under number 06 67 0063. The club has been running these introductory sessions since it was founded in 1975, so the instructors are well practiced in managing first-time divers in the pool environment. Equipment is available from the club's own inventory, which is maintained by a dedicated Responsable du Matériel appointed by the governing committee. Safety equipment and oxygen therapy kit are present at every in-water session, whether in the pool or at a quarry lake — this is a hard rule at CPS, not optional. For those who want to continue after the baptême, the club structure leads naturally into full FFESSM level certifications through the club's technical commission and qualified instructors.

Formation RIFAP

CPS runs RIFAP (Réaction et Intervention Face à un Accident de Plongée) training as part of its safety education offering. The club's internal regulations require candidates to hold a first-level first aid diploma before beginning RIFAP training — a requirement aligned with FFESSM national committee recommendations. This sequence ensures that participants arrive with a baseline of emergency response knowledge before moving into dive-specific accident management. The training is conducted within the club's technical commission structure, which organizes activities and courses according to FFESSM regulations. The club has a safety-first culture embedded in its bylaws: no in-water activity begins without safety equipment, oxygen therapy kit, and a qualified person able to use it. RIFAP graduates step directly into that support role during club dives. Completion of RIFAP is a prerequisite for certain encadrant (instructor) pathways within the FFESSM system, making it relevant not just for safety awareness but for members who want to progress toward leading dives or teaching. The club has an active Délégué des Encadrants who coordinates these training tracks.

Preguntas frecuentes

Las dudas más habituales de quienes están a punto de reservar

CPS is a non-profit association. You join as a member and pay an annual fee set by the General Assembly. Membership runs from 1 September to 30 September the following year and includes an FFESSM federation licence.

You need a valid CACI medical certificate (certificat médical de non contre-indication), and minors also need written parental authorization. These must be uploaded to your member profile before you can participate in any activity.

All open-water dives are in freshwater quarry lakes (gravières) in the Alsace region: the GDF, Wittisheim, Sermersheim, gravière du Fort, and gravière Léonhart. Pool sessions take place at the Piscine de Sélestat.

Yes, there is an active competitive freediving (apnée) section. In early 2026, the club sent seven competitors to the Aquanova America pool in Saint-Dié-des-Vosges. The club also competed in Molsheim and Mulhouse/Huningue during the 2025–2026 season.

Yes. The club runs themed night dives, including a Halloween session (Nuit des Esprits) at the gravière du Fort, typically organized in late October.

Yes, but you need the FFESSM 'vêtement sec' qualification to use a drysuit in club activities. Given cold water temperatures year-round in the local quarries, many members dive dry.

Yes. A new compressor station was installed at the end of 2024. Air fills are available to members, handled by authorized personnel listed on the official compressor roster.

External divers can be hosted at the quarry sites, but their visit must be arranged in advance with the Dive Director (DP), who will check that all FFESSM-required documents are in order.
