Open Water Diver

The PADI Open Water Diver course at Big Fish runs over three days and includes five open water dives. It produces a globally recognised certification allowing independent diving to 18m anywhere in the world. Minimum age is 10 years. The 440€ price covers all five dives, equipment, van transfers, learning materials in the diver's language, and dive insurance.

Theory and confined water skills sessions happen at or near the centre on Playa Las Vistas in Los Cristianos. Open water dives build progressively through the site list — starting on the shallow sand of Playa Las Vistas at 6–10m and stepping up to boat sites like El Bufadero (15–25m), La Caleta (15–22m), and El Condesito (15–20m) as skills are confirmed. The Pecios Gemelos twin wrecks at 15–20m are accessible once the certification is complete, adding a wreck dive as an immediate post-course option.

Equipment across all five dives includes Mares wetsuits, BCD, regulator, tank, mask, and fins. The Valiant DR 750 boat carries up to 12 divers but course groups are kept small, with free van transfers from accommodation included throughout the three days. Study materials are provided in English, German, Spanish, or Polish.

Luca, with over 5,000 logged dives, and Luli, who specialises in working with first-time divers, are among the instructors who run OWD courses at Big Fish. The combination of a stable boat, nine varied sites within reach, and a multilingual team makes the transition from theory to open water dives feel managed rather than rushed. After certification, the full site rotation from 6m to 30m is available through the centre's recreational dive packages at 35–50€ per dive.
