Essential of Tech

The UTD Essential of Tech is a five-day full-time course that functions as the entry point to technical diving at Argentario Divers — the first step in a programme the centre has been running since 1998, the longest-running UTD technical operation in Italy. The focus is less on depth records and more on building the self-awareness and team coordination that technical diving demands.

Students learn to manage their configuration, read their own body position underwater, and operate efficiently as part of a two or three-person team. The Argentario coast and its surrounding wrecks provide the training environment: actual open-water sites with real conditions, not a pool exercise in open water.

Argentario Divers carries the full technical infrastructure to support this course: twinsets, deco cylinders, stage bottles, and a fill station capable of blending trimix and nitrox with real-time gas analysis. Students train with the same gear they'll use on subsequent technical dives, rather than scaled-down recreational equipment.

This course is the prerequisite for the UTD Tech 1 Diver programme (€1,300), which takes divers to trimix depths using standardised gas mixes. The centre's instructor team includes both recreational and technical instructors, and Simone Nicolini — one of the owners — is involved in the technical training programme.
