The $745 fee includes 5 days of camp with a NAUI Instructor, rental of BCD, regulator, computer, and tanks for pool and open water dives, a $75 store rebate on basic scuba gear purchase, and transportation for pool and open water dives. It does not include basic scuba gear (mask, fins, snorkel), lunch, or entry fees for open water dive locations.
Participants must be between 10 and 15 years of age. If a participant has a 'yes' checked on their Diver's Medical Questionnaire, they must consult a physician and obtain a signed NAUI Medical Form clearing them for scuba diving, which must be presented on the day of participation.
Day charters typically dive two sites offshore, about 70 miles out, taking around 3 hours to reach. Sites include Stetson Bank (a coral reef system), The Kraken shipwreck (starting at 60ft, average 100-110ft), and various oil rig platforms (average depth up to 90ft or shallower). The specific sites depend on weather and current conditions.
Gulf diving is considered more advanced, requiring a higher level of comfort, awareness, and self-reliance. Divers should be proficient with buoyancy control, comfortable descending/ascending along lines, and capable of managing deeper profiles. Experience diving saltwater from a boat or multiple dives past initial certification dives in freshwater is highly recommended. Divers deemed unsafe for the group may be asked to sit out without a refund.
Spearfishing is permitted only for Lionfish and only on rig dives. This ensures the protection of natural reef systems and focuses on invasive species management.
