Cavern Diver

The PADI Cavern Diver Specialty course at The Dive Shop in Arizona offers an unparalleled opportunity to explore the hidden wonders beneath the surface. This specialty is designed for adventurous divers seeking to experience the thrill of penetrating overhead environments with exceptional visibility, often exceeding 1,000 feet. You will learn essential skills for navigating and safely exploring spectacular cave formations, venturing into the mysterious Maya underworld known as Xibalba. This course significantly enhances overall scuba diving abilities, focusing on refined buoyancy control and precise navigation techniques.

The initial phase of the Cavern Diver course is conducted in Tucson, Arizona, and includes comprehensive materials with books, three classroom sessions for theoretical knowledge, two pool sessions to practice skills in a controlled environment, one open water session, and one land-based session. To enroll, you must be at least 18 years old and hold a PADI Advanced Open Water Diver certification. The course utilizes your standard recreational scuba gear, with minor adaptations for the cavern environment.

To achieve full certification, a week-long expedition to Akumal, Quintana Roo, Mexico, is scheduled. Akumal is globally recognized as a premier destination for cave diving exploration. Divers participating in the Mexico portion must possess PADI Night, Buoyancy, and Nitrox specialty certifications. The trip itinerary is fully customizable to align with individual diver needs, budgets, preferred amenities, and schedules, ensuring a personalized experience in this world-class cave diving area.

It is important to note that specialized cavern diving equipment, such as a long hose, markers, and a spool, is not included in the course fee. Additional charges may apply for optional or make-up sessions for any part of the course, including class, pool, land, or open water components.
