Curso Divemaster

The WeDive Divemaster programme takes place in Lagos using the full catalogue of Algarve dive sites that the centre operates on a daily basis. Ocean Revival's four wrecks, the cave at Grutas Ponta da Piedade, the archaeological site at Âncoras, and the canyon at Pedras Altas are all working sites that Divemaster trainees assist with during real daily operations rather than dedicated training-only sessions. Nuno Oliveira, the SSI Instructor Trainer on staff, provides the highest level of mentoring available within the SSI system. The professional track at WeDive runs from Divemaster through Assistant Instructor to a full ITC, so completing the DM at this centre creates a direct in-house path to instructor qualification.

Several of the current Divemasters and Divemasters-in-training on the WeDive team also hold skipper qualifications — Tomás Salgado and Roy Woodruff both combine Divemaster status with a skipper licence. That combination is practical in a centre where the dive operation runs on boats to open ocean sites with genuine sea conditions rather than sheltered harbour water. The operation's scale — nine or more named sites, daily departures, multiple boat runs — gives Divemaster candidates real exposure to group management, site selection, briefings, and in-water leadership across varied conditions and diver levels.

Working as a Divemaster in training in Lagos means logging hours on a coast that includes cave dives, multilevel walls, archaeological sites, canyon formations, and a four-wreck complex. Canavial at 8 m is the centre's primary training site for baptisms and Open Water confined sessions, meaning DM candidates also observe and assist with the introductory end of the operation, not just the experienced diver trips to the deeper sites. João Pedro Freire's TDI Instructor credentials mean exposure to technical diving standards is present within the team environment, even for DM candidates staying in the recreational track.

The SSI and PADI instructor credentials distributed across the WeDive team give Divemaster candidates a view of how both systems operate within a working dive operation. For candidates who later want to move into the instructor track through SSI, Nuno Oliveira's Instructor Trainer status means the pathway from DM candidate to ITC participant stays entirely within the same centre and team.
