Niveau 2 extends the diver's autonomy significantly: it permits diving without a direct supervisor to 20 m, and diving with a palanquée leader to 40 m. At URSRSA, candidates must already hold a Niveau 1 or equivalent certification, and must have logged a minimum of 10 open-water dives before starting the programme — a prerequisite that filters out candidates who have certified but not yet built real water time.

Training again runs through the Wednesday pool sessions at Piscine Garibaldi for skill consolidation, with open-water dives at Chamagnieu or during Mediterranean weekends for the qualification components. The FFESSM framework at this level introduces more demanding skills: navigation, dive planning, buoyancy control in variable conditions, and the ability to manage a small group as part of a palanquée. The Mediterranean outings to Marseille, Cassis, Giens and Fréjus serve as the primary sea training ground.

The fosse at the Centre Aquatique Les Vagues in Meyzieu provides a useful intermediate environment for practising deeper skills before committing to open-sea dives. URSRSA's access to this facility gives Niveau 2 candidates a controlled deep-water training option that isn't dependent on good weather or a trip to the coast. This is particularly useful for the deeper skill work needed before the sea qualification phase.

Instruction is in French. Candidates who have certified Niveau 1 at another FFESSM club can join the Niveau 2 programme; the prerequisite is the certification and the 10 logged dives, not membership from the start.
