Try Scuba

The Try Scuba SSI programme at Brothers Diving in Gran Canaria is a single-dive introduction to scuba, running roughly four hours from start to finish. There's no certification exam involved — the goal is straightforward: get you comfortable underwater and into the ocean at Playa de Amadores, Playa de Tufia, or Risco Verde, whichever site conditions favour that morning.

The session starts at the dive centre with about 30 minutes covering the basics — how the gear works, how to breathe through the regulator, simple hand signals. Then you try on the wetsuit and the rest of the kit before loading into one of Brothers Diving's transport vans for the drive to the site, up to 25 minutes away. The site is picked on the day, always with an easy entry and exit in mind.

In the water, the instructor stays right alongside you. The ratio is capped at 2:1 — one instructor for every two beginners — so there's no moment where you're left wondering what to do next. Depth goes up to 10 metres if you're comfortable, with up to an hour underwater depending on your air consumption. Equipment is from Fourth Element, Scubapro, Cressi, Tecline and Mares — the same gear used across all Brothers Diving programmes.

The €99 fee covers everything: full scuba equipment, dive insurance, and transport from Maspalomas or nearby. Booking requires only a €20 deposit, and rescheduling is free. Cancellations within 24 hours of the dive forfeit the deposit. Minimum age is 8; under-18s need a signed parental consent form.
