Apnée (Freediving)

The freediving section at Aqua Sports Plongée is well-staffed for a club of this size. Guy BADRE heads freediving training with a CMAS** (E3) rating, EH1, Moniteur fédéral apnée, and ANTEOR qualification. Two other instructors — Cyrille TAILLIEZ and Alain VIOLA — also dive rebreather and hold instructor credentials relevant to the apnée section. In February 2026, two club members passed their IE2 freediving examiner qualification, further deepening the section's technical capacity.

The programme includes theory courses (listed separately in the club calendar as Cours Apnée théorie), dedicated pit sessions (Fosse APNEE), and initiation sessions for the younger members that combine apnée with underwater hockey and target shooting. The children's and junior initiation sessions for apnée run on Tuesdays.

Practical freediving sessions take place at the same quarry and pit sites used for scuba training — the Gravière du Fort, the Ecrouves fosse, and the NEMO 33 in Brussels for those seeking greater depth. The NEMO 33 (33m) is explicitly listed as a destination the club accesses under specific conditions.

The FFESSM apnée curriculum runs from introductory levels through examiner grades, and the club's current instructor team covers the full range. Candidates with an interest in competition-oriented or technical freediving will find more internal expertise here than at a typical recreational scuba club.
