Open Water Diver OWD

The PADI Open Water Diver at AlisioSub is structured in three phases. The knowledge development phase can be started via eLearning before arriving in Lanzarote, cutting down time at the center; alternatively, it runs as five theory modules on-site at the center in Puerto del Carmen with the instructor resolving questions on the key concepts and principles of autonomous diving. With eLearning, the whole course takes 2–3 days; with classroom theory, 3–4 days.

Confined water sessions, rather than defaulting to a pool, are run in a sheltered cala on the coast when sea conditions allow. The center notes that Lanzarote's conditions make this possible most of the time, meaning the first contact with equipment happens in an actual marine environment — sand, ambient light, and real marine life rather than tiles and lane markers.

The open water phase consists of four dives at different sites around Puerto del Carmen. With all instructors being locals who have been diving these waters for years, the site selection draws on detailed knowledge of where conditions suit the learning objectives at each stage. The course certifies to a maximum depth of 18m without a guide or instructor present, recognized worldwide with no expiry date.

The included package covers study materials, instructor time, all four open water dives, full dive equipment, accident insurance, and processing of the PADI certification. A current medical certificate and two passport-size photos are required before starting.
