The course integrates PADI eLearning with hands-on experience, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of marine debris issues and solutions.
This specialty course involves one practical dive conducted from Timanfaya Sub's boat in Puerto del Carmen. The dive site selection will depend on current conditions, but the focus remains on encountering and removing marine debris. Following the dive, participants will learn the crucial steps of data logging, which is essential for tracking pollution trends and informing conservation strategies. The PADI AWARE™ Foundation utilizes this data to advocate for policy changes and support marine protection initiatives worldwide. This course empowers you to make a tangible difference with every dive.
Lanzarote's waters offer a unique environment for this specialty. While specific visibility data is not provided, the average sea temperature hovers around 20.5°C, making for comfortable diving conditions throughout much of the year. The climate data shows minimal rainfall in summer months (June-August), with averages around 0.5 to 2.1 mm, ideal for diving activities. This consistent climate supports year-round diving opportunities, allowing for regular contributions to marine debris removal efforts.
The course requires a PADI (Junior) Open Water Diver, Freediver, Advanced Mermaid, or equivalent certification, with a minimum age of 10 years. The total duration with an instructor is one day, including the practical dive. The course fee is €135. While the PADI eLearning Dive Against Debris™ module is self-paced and takes approximately 2 to 4 hours, the practical session is scheduled by the center.
