Open Water Diver

The SSI Open Water course at Diving Canarias is the standard route to a full recreational certification recognised internationally. At €345 with IGIC, this is the discounted price for students who have already completed the Bautizo session with the centre — so if you did the Discover Scuba first, this is the natural continuation at a lower cost.

Training takes place in the Bahía de Radazul, which is sheltered from Atlantic winds and waves and stays diveable 365 days a year. That means scheduling the pool and open-water sessions is flexible — you're not at the mercy of seasonal weather windows the way you might be at other locations on the island. Shore dives from the centre cover the open-water component, with the centre literally 30 metres from the water.

SSI's Open Water certification is accepted by dive operations worldwide. Once you have it, you can join guided dives, rent equipment, and fill cylinders at any SSI-affiliated centre globally. For anyone based in or visiting Tenerife, having the certification in a location where you can dive year-round makes the learning process straightforward — you can spread sessions across multiple days without waiting on conditions.

The centre's full course catalogue continues well beyond Open Water, from specialties and rescue through to technical and professional programmes. Students who find the technical side interesting can continue within the same facility rather than moving to a different centre.
