Open Water Diver

The PADI Open Water Diver course is the standard starting point for anyone who wants a full certification rather than a one-day experience. At Pura Aventura, the course runs with PADI instructors in the waters of the Costa Blanca — including the marine reserve at Tabarca and the wider area around Cabo de Palos, Cartagena and Alicante.

The Open Water certification is internationally recognised and does not expire. It qualifies you to dive to 18 metres with a buddy and rent equipment at any dive operation anywhere in the world. The PADI system is the most widely recognised recreational diving agency globally, which matters when you show up somewhere new and need to prove your level.

The course structure follows the standard PADI format: theory (which can be completed through PADI's eLearning platform before travelling), confined water skills sessions covering the foundational techniques — mask clearing, regulator recovery, buoyancy control — and open water dives to complete the certification requirements in real conditions.
