The PADI Open Water Diver course at The Dive Shop is your gateway to exploring the underwater world, offering a comprehensive certification recognized globally. The Dive Shop, a PADI Five Star Instructor Development Center, structures this course to ensure a thorough understanding and practical application of diving techniques. You will learn through a combination of knowledge development, confined water skill sessions, and open water dives, preparing you for independent diving adventures.

Your learning journey begins with knowledge development, which can be completed through traditional classroom study or the flexible PADI eLearning/Digital Touch option, allowing you to study at your own pace. This is followed by confined water skill development in The Dive Shop's on-site, heated indoor pool. Here, you will master essential scuba skills such as mask clearing, regulator recovery, and buoyancy control under the guidance of experienced instructors. All necessary equipment, including tanks, BCD, regulator, and weights, is provided for these sessions, ensuring you can focus on skill acquisition.

The certification culminates in the Open Water Practicum, which involves four open water dives. The Dive Shop offers distinct options for this crucial phase: Lake Pleasant in Arizona, Balmorhea in Texas, or San Carlos in Mexico, each with a different associated cost. These dives allow you to apply your newly acquired skills in real-world diving environments. Upon successful completion, you will be certified as a PADI Open Water Diver, enabling you to dive with a buddy to a maximum depth of 18 meters (60 feet) independently of a professional.

Personal gear, including a mask, fins, snorkel, and boots, is required, and students receive a 15% discount on these purchases. The course schedule typically includes Tuesday and Thursday evening sessions for orientation and classroom work, followed by intensive Saturday and Sunday sessions for pool training and skill reviews. Private courses are also available for those seeking personalized attention and flexible scheduling.
