Search and Recovery Specialty

The PADI Search and Recovery Specialty course at Island Diving Center in Roatán equips you with the skills to locate and retrieve lost items underwater. This specialty involves two dives where you'll practice systematic search patterns and learn the proper use of lift bags for object recovery. You will gain proficiency in techniques essential for finding everything from lost anchors to personal belongings. Roatán offers excellent conditions for this type of training, with typically good visibility and warm water temperatures year-round, averaging around 27-29°C (81-84°F). The dive sites around the island provide diverse underwater topography suitable for practicing various search patterns and recovery techniques. While specific dive sites for this specialty are chosen based on conditions and training objectives, the general marine environment is rich, though the focus here is on the recovery aspect rather than marine life encounters.
