4 cursosNiveau 1 FFESSM
The Niveau 1 is the entry-level FFESSM certification. At Touring Plongée Lyon, the full training sequence starts in the pool at the Centre Nautique André SOUSI in Bron, where beginners spend around ten sessions learning to handle fins, mask and snorkel, then the cylinder, regulator and BCD. Thursday evenings from 20:00 to 21:15 are the regular slot, and the pace suits people with no prior experience. Once pool skills are solid, sessions move to the 20 m fosse at the Centre nautique Les Vagues de Meyzieu and to the prepared quarry at Chamagnieu. These inland sites bridge the gap between the controlled pool environment and open sea — visibility conditions and depth feel different, and that transition is built into the club's progression structure. Once certified, a Niveau 1 diver can dive with a dive guide (palanquée) down to a maximum of 20 m. The qualification is FFESSM-recognised across France and compatible with European reciprocity agreements. Instructors Philippe and Nicolas oversee N1 formation, both volunteering their time as part of the club's entirely non-professional encadrement. The season runs from mid-September through to summer, with sea outings for N1 candidates integrated into the club's Mediterranean weekend calendar — Bormes les Mimosas, St Cyr sur Mer and Estartit all feature on the annual programme.
Niveau 2 FFESSM
The Niveau 2 at Touring Plongée Lyon is co-managed by Saladin, Pascal and Patrick, three experienced volunteer instructors. Theoretical preparation sessions are scheduled during the season and announced in the club calendar. Pool training continues at the Centre Nautique André SOUSI on Thursday evenings, with specific N2 prep lanes running alongside N1 and freediving. Deep water sessions take place at the 20 m fosse in Meyzieu, with multiple dates spread from December to April. The jump in technical demand compared to N1 is real: buoyancy control at depth, managing ascents and gas consumption all feature in the preparation. Sea outings in spring — typically April and May — are described as primarily technical weekends, and N2 candidates participate alongside more experienced members. Bormes les Mimosas and St Cyr sur Mer are the regular Mediterranean destinations used by the club for these sessions, working with partner centres Aqua Bormes and Azur Plongée. Nitrox training is offered separately by instructor Fabrice (E3-MF1, responsible for technical training) and can be pursued once N2 certification is in hand.
Nitrox FFESSM
Nitrox training at Touring Plongée Lyon is handled by Fabrice, the club's technical director who holds an E3-MF1 qualification. He is also certified as a Nitrox trainer. Jef, another E3-MF1 instructor, is also listed as a Nitrox trainer in the team. The course follows the FFESSM Nitrox certification pathway. Theoretical sessions covering gas physiology, oxygen partial pressure limits and planning considerations are scheduled during the season — specific dates are announced in the club calendar. Practical application is then integrated into the club's sea weekends. This is a specialty that makes sense for the club's profile: the September wreck weekends at Bormes les Mimosas are described as deep dives reserved for N3+ divers, and Nitrox extends bottom time on those profiles. Having two qualified Nitrox trainers in a volunteer club of 85 members is a meaningful asset.
Apnée FFESSM
Freediving sits alongside scuba as a full discipline within the club, not a secondary offering. The team counts four coaches at MEF1 and IE2 levels, including a former vice-champion de France at –95 m in free immersion. That depth benchmark signals a genuinely competitive background in the coaching staff. Training runs through the same Thursday evening pool sessions at Centre Nautique André SOUSI, in dedicated freediving lanes. Additional depth sessions happen at the 20 m fosse in Meyzieu and at Nemo 33. Open water progression takes place at the Chamagnieu quarry, at Lac du Bourget/Chindrieux, and in the sea during club outings. The FFESSM freediving brevets are validated progressively as divers advance through the programme — pool, then inland open water, then sea. Competitive events are also on the calendar: the club participated in the Interapnée Drôme Ardèche in April 2026 and has a RIFA (modules 4 to 7) scheduled in May. Coaches for apnée are Jérémie, Fred and Raphy (MEF1, responsible for freediving). The breadth of venues and the competition programme make this one of the more complete freediving tracks available in a Lyon-area club.

Every Thursday evening from 20:00 to 21:15 at the Centre Nautique André SOUSI in Bron (10 Allée Gaillard Romanet, 69500 Bron), including during school holidays. The pool has 4 lanes of 50 metres and runs simultaneous sessions for scuba N1 prep, N2 prep, freediving and general swimming.
The club covers FFESSM Niveau 1 (up to 20 m with a guide), Niveau 2, and Niveau 3 (autonomous to 60 m in air). Nitrox training is also available. Niveau 3 and RIFAP are organised in partnership with the CTD69 of the FFESSM. Freediving certifications (FFESSM brevets) are validated progressively from pool to open water.
Yes. Members can hire regulators, octopus, gauges, BCDs, and 12 or 15-litre cylinders at per-session, weekly, or monthly rates. Pick-up and return is on Thursday evenings after pool training.
The standard calendar includes technical weekends at Bormes les Mimosas (Aqua Bormes) and St Cyr sur Mer (Azur Plongée) in spring, a long weekend at Estartit in June with El rei del mar Diving Center, a deep-wreck weekend at Bormes les Mimosas in September (N3+ only), and an October outing. There is also one major international trip per year — Mozambique in 2026.
Freediving is a core discipline at the club, not an afterthought. The team includes MEF1 and IE2 coaches, one of whom is a former vice-champion de France at –95 m in free immersion. Sessions run in the pool, at the Chamagnieu quarry, in lakes, in the 20 m pit at Meyzieu, and in the sea. Brevets FFESSM are validated at each level of progression.
