Advanced Open Water

The PADI Advanced Open Water Diver course at Big Fish runs over 2–3 days with five dives. It extends the certified depth limit from 18m to 30m and introduces structured dives in navigation and deep diving — the two mandatory adventure dives — plus three elective specialties from whatever the centre offers and conditions allow. Minimum age is 10 years and a valid OWD certification is required. The deep dive component in this course reaches the deeper end of Big Fish's site map. El Meridian sits at a flat 30m and is accessible by boat from Los Cristianos; Cueva de las Morenas goes to 38m at its deepest point and is the other AOWD-tier site in the nine-site rotation. Either entry gives a first controlled experience at that depth range under direct instructor supervision, before it becomes an unsupervised limit after certification. Elective dives can include wreck work at Pecios Gemelos (15–20m), night diving, navigation at various sites across the rotation, or other adventure dives depending on what's scheduled that week. The variety of terrain across the nine sites — sand, reef, cave, wreck — means elective sessions cover genuinely different conditions rather than repeating the same dive with a different label. Equipment, van transfers, dive insurance, and study materials in English, German, Spanish, or Polish are all included in the 350€ fee. Luca, who works across recreational and technical diving and has over 5,000 dives on his log, leads a significant portion of advanced training at the centre. Completing the AOWD opens the full Big Fish site list — including both deep sites — and makes a week in Tenerife substantially more varied. Divers who finish and want to continue toward Rescue Diver can book that course immediately at 450€.

Descubre el buceo

The Discover Scuba Diving experience at Big Fish runs as a single-day programme, covering basic theory and equipment orientation before the dive itself. Minimum age is 10 years and no prior experience is required. The 100€ price covers one guided dive, full equipment, and dive insurance — learning materials in the diver's language are also included as part of the centre's standard package for all courses. The dive takes place either at Playa Las Vistas, the sandy beach site at 6–10m directly in front of the centre, or at Playa del Puertito, a site known for turtle encounters in the area. Site selection depends on conditions and group composition on the day. Both locations offer controlled, low-current environments suited to a first supervised dive with a PADI instructor. Free air-conditioned van transfers are included, collecting from accommodation in the Los Cristianos area. The team's multilingual composition means the briefing and all in-water communication run in English, German, Spanish, or Polish depending on who's assigned. Instructor-to-student ratios on beginner experiences at Big Fish sit at 1:2, as reported by guests who have done this programme. This is a one-dive introduction. It doesn't produce a PADI certification but functions as a trial before committing to a full course. Divers who want to continue have clear onward options at Big Fish — the Scuba Diver course at 300€ for five dives and a limited certification, or the Open Water Diver at 440€ for the full three-day programme. The DSD at 100€ is deductible from some course prices when booked as a direct progression.

Open Water Diver

The PADI Open Water Diver course at Big Fish runs over three days and includes five open water dives. It produces a globally recognised certification allowing independent diving to 18m anywhere in the world. Minimum age is 10 years. The 440€ price covers all five dives, equipment, van transfers, learning materials in the diver's language, and dive insurance. Theory and confined water skills sessions happen at or near the centre on Playa Las Vistas in Los Cristianos. Open water dives build progressively through the site list — starting on the shallow sand of Playa Las Vistas at 6–10m and stepping up to boat sites like El Bufadero (15–25m), La Caleta (15–22m), and El Condesito (15–20m) as skills are confirmed. The Pecios Gemelos twin wrecks at 15–20m are accessible once the certification is complete, adding a wreck dive as an immediate post-course option. Equipment across all five dives includes Mares wetsuits, BCD, regulator, tank, mask, and fins. The Valiant DR 750 boat carries up to 12 divers but course groups are kept small, with free van transfers from accommodation included throughout the three days. Study materials are provided in English, German, Spanish, or Polish. Luca, with over 5,000 logged dives, and Luli, who specialises in working with first-time divers, are among the instructors who run OWD courses at Big Fish. The combination of a stable boat, nine varied sites within reach, and a multilingual team makes the transition from theory to open water dives feel managed rather than rushed. After certification, the full site rotation from 6m to 30m is available through the centre's recreational dive packages at 35–50€ per dive.

Reactivar

The Reactivar programme at Big Fish is a single-day refresher for certified divers returning to the water after a break. It includes one guided dive and a review of basic skills, priced at 90€. No specific time limit is stated for how long a diver needs to have been out of the water — it's aimed at anyone feeling rusty or wanting to rebuild confidence before joining the standard recreational dive rotation. The review session covers buoyancy, mask clearing, regulator recovery, and hand signals before entering the water. The dive itself takes place at one of the shallower sites in the Big Fish rotation — typically Playa Las Vistas at 6–10m — where conditions allow skills confirmation without adding depth or current as additional variables. After the dive, certified participants can immediately book into the multi-dive packages at 35–50€ per dive. Equipment is fully provided: Mares wetsuit, BCD, regulator, tank, mask, and fins. Minimum age is 10 years and an existing certification is required. Van transfers are included in the standard course package format, and instruction is available in English, German, Spanish, or Polish. Several instructors at Big Fish have 5+ years of experience on the island. Working through the re-orientation process with someone familiar with the local sites — depth, visibility, what to expect on the descent — is a different experience from doing a generic refresher in a swimming pool. The 90€ price covers everything for the single session.

Divemaster

The PADI Divemaster programme at Big Fish Tenerife runs over approximately two months and includes a minimum of 60 logged dives. It's the first professional-level certification in the PADI system — qualifying holders to lead certified divers underwater, assist instructors during courses, and work commercially as dive guides. Big Fish holds PADI 5-Star IDC status, meaning it regularly trains candidates at Divemaster level and above. Candidates spend the two months working alongside the centre's instructors on live course groups and recreational dive days. This gives genuine exposure to real teaching situations rather than simulated ones — managing beginner groups on the Valiant DR 750, handling equipment before and after dives, assisting on OWD and AOWD confined water sessions, and guiding certified divers across the full nine-site rotation from 6m to 38m. The 60-dive minimum builds up progressively across all terrain the centre works. The team that candidates work with includes Luca (5,000+ dives, recreational and technical), Luli (specialised in beginners and kids programmes), Greg (methodical safety standards from a military background), and Alberto (equipment maintenance and dive leadership). The centre's daily operation covers boat dives, shore dives, children's sessions, beginner programmes, and advanced courses — the variety across a two-month placement is broad. Instruction and daily operations run in English, German, Spanish, and Polish. Pricing is available on request and not listed publicly. Prerequisites are a valid PADI Rescue Diver certification, a minimum of 40 logged dives before starting, and a current medical fitness statement. Candidates interested in continuing to PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor after completing Divemaster can discuss IDC scheduling directly with the centre, given its 5-Star IDC status.

Bautizmo

The Bautizo at Big Fish is a 40-minute guided dive from the beach, starting from Playa Las Vistas right in front of the centre. It's the lowest-cost entry point the centre offers at 70€ and the most stripped-back introduction — no boat, no extended theory, just a short briefing and then into the Atlantic. The site sits at 6–10m of depth, which keeps the whole experience close to the surface and well within an easy ascent at any point. The briefing covers basic hand signals, how to breathe through the regulator, equalising on descent, and what to do if something feels wrong. It's kept practical and short, aimed at people who don't need a lecture — they need to know enough to enjoy 40 minutes underwater without anxiety. The instructor stays in contact throughout the dive, maintaining physical proximity for the duration. Equipment is provided in full: Mares wetsuit, BCD, regulator, mask, fins, and tank. No van transfer is included in this format since the dive is from the beach directly in front of the centre at Calle Jesús Domínguez Grillo 19. For visitors staying close to Los Cristianos, that makes it easy to walk over, do the dive, and be back within a couple of hours. Minimum age is 10 years. The Bautizo doesn't produce a certification — it's purely an experience dive. Anyone who finishes it and wants to keep going can move directly into the Discover Scuba Diving programme at 100€ or start the Open Water Diver course at 440€. The instructors at Big Fish run beginner dives in English, German, Spanish, and Polish.

PADI Scuba Diver

The PADI Scuba Diver course at Big Fish runs over 1–2 days and includes five dives. It certifies divers to go to 12m when accompanied by a PADI professional — it's a partial Open Water qualification, useful for people with limited time who want an internationally recognised card at the end of the holiday rather than just an experience dive. Minimum age is 10 years. The five dives split between confined water skills practice and open water dives at the shallower end of the Big Fish site rotation. Playa Las Vistas at 6–10m is the main open water venue for candidates on this course, keeping depth well within the 12m ceiling. The sandy, predictable terrain here — right in front of the centre at Playa Las Vistas — gives a straightforward setting for buoyancy skills, mask clearing, and regulator recovery without distractions. The 300€ price covers the full five dives, Mares wetsuit and equipment across all sessions, van transfers, study materials in the candidate's language, and dive insurance. Instruction is available in English, German, Spanish, and Polish. The centre's small group format means candidates get direct instructor attention rather than waiting in a queue for skills checks. Scuba Diver certification is a recognised PADI credential, though it limits holders to 12m and requires diving with a professional. Many divers use it as a stepping stone and return to complete the remaining components for a full Open Water Diver certification. At Big Fish, the progression to OWD is straightforward — the Scuba Diver dives count toward the OWD requirement, so there's no redundant work involved in converting the certification later.

Rescue Diver + EFR

The PADI Rescue Diver combined with Emergency First Response training at Big Fish runs over four days and includes five dives. Minimum age is 16 years, and candidates need an existing Advanced Open Water certification. The 450€ fee covers the full course including EFR certification, all five dives, equipment, van transfers, and study materials in English, German, Spanish, or Polish. The EFR component covers CPR and first aid on land before moving to in-water rescue scenarios. The four-day structure alternates surface sessions with dives in the ocean around Los Cristianos, using the centre's site rotation to set up realistic problem scenarios in open water rather than a pool. Five dives over four days with active rescue work makes this a more physically and mentally demanding stretch than the AOWD course. At Big Fish, small group sizes mean candidates get detailed feedback on rescue techniques after each scenario rather than spending sessions waiting their turn. The instructors running Rescue courses — Greg, whose ex-military background shapes how he approaches safety and procedure, and others on the team — bring different styles of rigour to the training. Candidates who are methodical about skills progression find the four-day format works well here. Rescue Diver is a prerequisite for Divemaster at PADI, so candidates at Big Fish who have the professional track in mind often move directly from this course into the two-month Divemaster programme. The practical, scenario-driven structure of the four days makes it the course that most changes how divers perceive what's happening around them underwater — awareness of other divers shifts permanently after working through the rescue scenarios.
