Formation Niveau 1

The Niveau 1 at Club Subaquatique des Vénètes runs across a full season — registration in September, pool work from October through spring, four sea validation dives in April and May. The club is explicit about this: it is not a one-weekend course. Training in the Atlantic, even in the sheltered Golfe du Morbihan, demands solid technique before anyone enters the sea, and the multi-month structure reflects that. Pool sessions take place primarily at Piscine Kercado in Vannes, in groups capped at four to six divers per instructor. The curriculum follows the FFESSM N1 skill set: equipment assembly and configuration, regulator breathing, mask clearing, controlled ascents, underwater communication signs and basic stabilisation. Everything is rehearsed in the pool until it becomes automatic. The four sea dives are conducted from the club's boat, the Fleur de corail, in the Golfe du Morbihan. These are the practical validation for what was learned in the pool — real currents, real cold water, real kit. Depth ceiling for N1 holders is 20 m, always under the supervision of a qualified encadrant. The Golfe offers varied terrain close to Vannes, and these dives typically take place on the same sites the club uses for regular outings. Minimum age is 14. A medical certificate less than one year old confirming no contraindication is required; minors need parental authorisation as well. All instructors are bénévoles with FFESSM qualifications. Membership and payment are handled via HelloAsso; complementary insurance is available through Cabinet Lafont for FFESSM licence holders. Once certified, N1 holders can join the full range of club outings to the Golfe du Morbihan, Ria d'Etel, Île de Houat and Groix. A ratio rule applies on outings — a maximum of two N1 divers per already-registered encadrant — so booking early via the online system is worth it during peak season.

Formation Niveau 2

With Niveau 2, you move from supervised diving to something more independent. The FFESSM N2 certification allows autonomous diving to 20 m and guided dives as part of a palanquée to 40 m — a meaningful extension from the N1 ceiling, and the level needed to dive freely on most club outings without the encadrant ratio constraint. Registration at CSV opens in mid-September. Pool phases are concentrated in October–November and again in April–May, fitting around the Atlantic sea season. Prerequisites are a valid Niveau 1 and a recommended 12 logged dives. The extra skills added at this level include guided group management, assisted ascents from 20 m, underwater navigation, palanquée leadership and buoy deployment — all rehearsed in the pool before sea validation. Sea dives take place either in fresh water or in the sea depending on conditions. The club's calendar shows N2 formation dives in the Golfe du Morbihan, including at la Faille. The Fleur de corail is the usual platform. Two dedicated N2 formation dive slots appear in May, overlapping with the end of the pool cycle and the start of the main dive season. Completing N2 removes the N1 supervision ratio and opens full access to the club's regular outing programme: les Gorets, le Grégan, Ria d'Etel, Houat, Groix. The autonomous diving range to 20 m covers the majority of sites the club dives regularly in the Morbihan. Divers pushing further need N3. All instructors are FFESSM-qualified bénévoles. Pool sessions run at Kercado and Grandchamp in groups of up to six. The seasonal structure means the course takes a full year from registration to sea certification — the same deliberate pace as N1, suited to cold-water Atlantic diving where cutting corners in training is a bad idea.

Section Apnée — du Pass' Apnéiste à l'Expert Eau Libre

The freediving section at CSV is a fully developed programme, not a side activity. About 50 members train weekly under a coaching team of one MEF2, one MEF1 and eight IE1 and IE2 instructors — plus three new Initiateurs Entraîneurs Apnée certified in May 2026 after a residential training weekend in Rennes. The section is affiliated with both FFESSM and CMAS. Certifications progress from Pass' Apnéiste (beginner) through Apnéiste, Apnéiste Confirmé Eau Libre and Apnéiste Expert Eau Libre. Pool training runs at the Piscine d'Elven from September to June, with three weekly sessions: Thursday 21h–22h30 for the main group, Wednesday 19h45–21h30 for advanced divers (excluding beginners), and Monday 20h–21h30 for competitors only. Pool disciplines include static apnea, dynamic no-fins (DNF), dynamic bi-fin, dynamic monofin and speed. Open-water depth work takes place at the Carrière de Liscuit near Saint-Avé, where the section trains immersion libre, poids variable and gueule légère. The transition from pool to quarry is managed progressively, with sessions announced in the club calendar. Minimum equipment required: fins, mask, snorkel and weighting. Safety is central. RIFA-A (emergency response for apnea accidents) training runs every year, with new members trained and experienced ones recertified. Sessions incorporate breathing technique, relaxation, mobility work and stretching as standard — not as optional add-ons. The section also runs introductory sessions for scuba members who want a first contact with freediving. The section competes at national level. Five competitors and two judges represented CSV at the Coupe de France d'apnée second round in Brest (January 2026). The club organises the Vannes Apnée Contest every February. In May 2026 the section began coaching a 16-year-old junior preparing for the Championnat de France d'apnée en eau libre at Villefranche-sur-Mer (June 2026), having already reached -26 m at Lanzarote. The section was full for 2025-2026; contact the club to register interest for 2026-2027.
