Snorkel

The snorkeling outing runs from the base at Quai Landry with a 15-minute boat ride to a calm, shallow site suited to surface exploration. Once there, you have one hour in the water to explore at your own pace — the site selection is designed for good visibility and Mediterranean fauna and flora accessible without a tank. Equipment is fully provided: fins, mask, snorkel and wetsuit. An instructor is on board throughout for supervision and safety briefing, though they don't accompany you in the water. Children must be accompanied by an adult. If there are divers in the group, the snorkeling outing is a good way for non-diving companions to watch certified divers from above — the shallow sites used for snorkeling often overlap with the upper sections of dive sites. Price is 40€ per person.

Curso Open Water Diver

The PADI Open Water at Calvi Plongée covers six dives across six sessions of approximately two hours each, reaching a maximum of 18 metres. The minimum age is 10 years. Groups are capped at four students per instructor throughout the course. The theory component is completed online and is not included in the 480€ course price — the e-learning option with certification adds 150€. A medical certificate is required before starting. The Bay of Calvi and the surrounding sites give the Open Water a good range of environments across the six dives. The dive sites the centre works regularly — St François, Punta Rossa, Punta Bianca — provide Mediterranean fauna and flora at the depths used for Open Water training, making the skills dives more varied than a pool-based approach. The certification (80€ additional) is issued by PADI and is internationally recognised. On completion, Open Water holders can continue directly into the Advanced Open Water at Calvi Plongée.

Curso Advanced Open Water

Five dives across five sessions of approximately two hours each. The two mandatory dives are deep (to 30 metres, depth depending on age) and navigation. The three elective dives can be chosen from: wreck, night diving, fish identification, nitrox or underwater photography — all available at Calvi Plongée. The wreck option here is the B17, the WWII American bomber that sits as the centre's flagship site. Choosing it as one of the Advanced electives means your first proper exploration of the B17 happens in a structured, guided context — a reasonable way to approach a wreck at depth for the first time. Prerequisite is a valid Open Water certification. Age minimum is 12 years, though depth is limited to 24 metres under 15 years. Groups are capped at four per instructor. Theory is online, not included in the 400€ price (add 150€ with PADI certification). Medical certificate required.

Baptême / Try scuba SSI

The baptism at Calvi Plongée runs 1h30 in total: briefing and kit-up at the base, then a boat ride out to a site suited to first-timers. The dive itself lasts 20 minutes, one-on-one with an instructor, down to a maximum of 6 metres — adjusted depending on age and comfort in the water. After the dive, 40 minutes of free snorkeling in a sheltered cove before heading back. No experience is needed and no medical certificate is required. Children are accepted from age 8 without any swimming requirement. The format is designed to be a proper first encounter with the underwater world rather than a pool exercise — the Calvi bay gives you Mediterranean fauna at shallow depth even on a baptism. On return, there's a warm shower available at the base. A souvenir certificate is included. Instructors Denis and Pascal both run baptisms regularly; Denis in particular is described by the team as enjoying that first introduction to diving more than anything else. Price is 95€ per person, no certification fees apply.

NIVEAU 1 - PE20

The FFESSM Niveau 1 at Calvi Plongée covers five dives after a preliminary baptism, plus one theory session. The certification allows diving to 20 metres with a guide — the PE20 designation makes that explicit. Minimum age is 12 years, groups are capped at four per instructor. The Niveau 1 is the French equivalent of Open Water and carries international equivalence. It's the entry point for the full FFESSM ladder: from here you can pursue PE40 (dive to 40 m including the B17), PA20 (autonomous diving to 20 m), and ultimately Niveau 2 and beyond. Certification costs 60€ additional and is not included in the 400€ course fee. A medical certificate is required. Theory is included (one session, not online like PADI). First dive reserved online; subsequent sessions scheduled at the base.

NIVEAU 2

Nine training dives plus three theory sessions, covering the depth range from 15 to 60 metres. The Niveau 3 includes mandatory validation of the RIFAP (dive accident response module, 150€ separate cost), planning and organising dives, group safety management and emergency procedures. An exam validates all competencies at the end. Prerequisites are Niveau 2 and 40 logged dives minimum. Minimum age is 18. Groups are limited to three divers per instructor at this level — smaller than the entry-level courses. Certification costs 60€ additional. At the depth range involved, the Calvi sites include the Sec des Belges wall and the B17 wreck. The Niveau 3 is the highest autonomous certification in the FFESSM system before Niveau 4 (guide de palanquée); holders can dive independently to 60 m. A refresher dive is recommended if more than a year has passed since the last dive. Medical certificate required.

RIFAP

The RIFAP — Réactions et Intervention Face à un Accident de Plongée — is the French standard for dive accident first response. It's mandatory for FFESSM Niveau 3 but is open to any diver from Niveau 1 upward. The course runs over two half-days: one practical session in the water (unequipping a casualty, towing, recovering onto a boat) and one theory session at the base covering diagnostics, emergency alerts and first aid protocols specific to diving accidents. Minimum age is 16. Groups are capped at four. A medical certificate is required. Certification costs 60€ additional. The practical component takes place in the same conditions as normal dives — open water off Calvi, not a pool.

Rescue Diver

Six dives across six sessions, focused on recognising and resolving problems both underwater and at the surface. The course covers self-rescue, assisting distressed divers, missing diver procedures and emergency management scenarios. Prerequisites are Advanced Open Water certification and a valid Emergency First Response (EFR) course completed within the past 24 months. The minimum age is 16. Groups are capped at four per instructor. The practical exercises are conducted in the water — not in a pool — using the same sites the centre works daily, which gives the scenarios a realistic open-water context. The certification (80€ additional) is issued by PADI and is the standard prerequisite for Divemaster training. Medical certificate required. Theory online, not included (add 150€ with certification).

Plongeur de Bronze

The Plongeur de Bronze is the entry-level children's stage at Calvi Plongée, accessible from age 8. It runs over three dives at depths between 2 and 6 metres, with each session lasting approximately 30 minutes underwater. The ratio is 1 to 2 children per instructor throughout. The programme covers equipment familiarisation, underwater communication gestures, basic safety exercises and guided exploration of Mediterranean fauna and flora at shallow depth. It's a structured first step rather than a one-off baptism — by the third dive, children are working through exercises in a consistent environment. A medical certificate is required for the FFESSM variant; not required for ANMP. Certification costs 60€ additional, payable on obtaining the diploma. The first session is reserved online; subsequent dives are scheduled at the base.

Frequently asked

What people ask before booking

No certification needed for baptisms — they're open to everyone from age 8, no prior swimming ability required. Certified divers (PADI, CMAS, SSI, FFESSM or equivalent) can join guided exploration dives or autonomous buddy dives depending on their level.

Baptisms and the Plongeur de Bronze children's stage start from age 8. The PADI Open Water and Junior Open Water are available from age 10. FFESSM Niveau 1 requires a minimum age of 12. Most advanced autonomous certifications require age 18.

Between 40 and 60 minutes depending on the site, depth and air consumption. Baptisms run shorter — around 20 minutes underwater. Children's sessions are approximately 30 minutes underwater.

Just a swimsuit and a towel. All diving and snorkeling equipment — wetsuit, fins, mask, regulator, BCD, tank — is available at the centre. Rental is included in some packages and priced separately for exploration dives.

Every Saturday in September 2026, the centre organises a full-day outing: two dives on more remote, less-frequented sites, a meal included between the dives, and a visit by boat to the Scandola natural reserve, a UNESCO World Heritage site on the west coast of Corsica.

Both French (FFESSM) and international (PADI, SSI) certifications are available. The French track goes from PE12 up to Niveau 4 (guide de palanquée). PADI covers Open Water through Rescue Diver and a range of specialties. Certification fees (60€ for most courses, 80€ for PADI) are additional to course prices.

The centre is open Monday to Saturday from 7:00 to 20:00. Bookings can be made by phone (04 95 65 33 67 or 06 18 01 41 83), by email at [email protected], or directly at the base on Quai Landry in Calvi port.

Cash, credit/debit card, bank transfer and chèques vacances are all accepted.
