All sports activities, whether aquatic or not, can be dangerous if done without criteria and without respecting the rules. Freediving is a confrontation with one's limits, but it must always involve listening to oneself and the signals our body sends, as well as respecting the dictates of experience. Common sense and knowledge ensure that freediving can also be practiced safely.
To start, simple fins, a snorkel, a mask, and a wetsuit (with a weight belt for proper buoyancy) are sufficient to avoid the cold. If your passion for the sport grows, freediving fins and a low-volume mask are good purchases. There is a wide range of products available for freediving and spearfishing.
No, not necessarily. For freediving, good watermanship, some familiarity with fins, and basic knowledge of breaststroke are enough. Everything can be learned with willingness, determination, and sufficient time to improve.
