Open Water Diver

The Open Water Diver course at ClanDestino Sub certifies to 18 metres depth with a buddy and follows the full PADI curriculum. Being based inland in Curtatone means the course structure divides naturally: confined water skill sessions happen during the club's regular weekly pool schedule, and open water dives take place at Lago di Garda or the sea on organized group outings. That split gives students more pool time than a coastal operation that pushes quickly to open water, which tends to show up in better buoyancy and gear handling before the open water component begins. PADI eLearning is available for the theory section if you can't attend classroom sessions in person or live far from the base. The pool schedule is ongoing rather than compressed into fixed course weekends, so students can fit confined water training around their availability. The Tessera Socio membership (€50/year) includes pool entry and equipment rental, meaning enrolled members don't need to arrive with their own kit for pool sessions. The open water dives are organized as group trips — the club has run sessions at y-40 in Montegrotto Terme, where Open Water students completed their first open water dives in the same pool used by the freediving group, benefiting from the controlled visibility conditions there. Instruction is handled by a team that includes PADI Master Instructor Davide Franceschetti (#269136) and OWSI-level instructors Tommaso Agosti (#533037) and Sara Ferrari (#532970). The club holds a PADI 5 Star rating, which sets standards for instruction quality, equipment, and course documentation across all programs. For students starting from zero at this club, the Open Water Diver is the first step into a training catalog that continues through Advanced Open Water, Rescue Diver, Divemaster, and the full technical track up to Tec Trimix. No age limit is stated for course enrollment. Prerequisites are a medical certificate and good physical health; no prior diving experience is required. Enrollments open September 1st each year, and booking is handled directly with Davide by email or phone. Completing the Open Water Diver here means joining a club calendar that includes regular pool sessions, lake and sea dives, and group travel organized by the association.

Basic Freediver PADI

The Basic Freediver course at ClanDestino Sub is the club's entry point into apnea, taught by Davide Franceschetti who holds a PADI Freedive Instructor qualification. The course focuses on the foundational principles of freediving — breath control, relaxation technique, and the mental approach to static and dynamic apnea — using both dry exercises and in-pool sessions. The target skills are 90 seconds of static apnea and 25 metres of dynamic, both achievable in pool conditions that the club uses for its regular weekly training schedule. No prior freediving or scuba experience is required. Freediving is treated seriously at this club, not as a recreational add-on to the scuba program. In April 2017 ClanDestino Sub hosted Homar Leuci — a world-level competitive freediver with multiple international titles — for a full-day seminar on breathing, relaxation, and in-water practice. That event gives some context for the level of commitment the club brings to the discipline. Students coming into the Basic Freediver course are joining a group that has been actively developing its apnea culture for years. The minimum age for the Basic Freediver is 12 years. Good swimming ability and general physical health are required; no specific fitness level beyond that is mentioned. The theory component uses the PADI Freediver Touch digital materials for self-study, which can be completed independently before pool sessions. The confined water work covers static apnea technique, the basics of dynamic apnea, and safety procedures for buddy freediving. Completing the Basic Freediver opens the path to the full Freediver PADI course, which requires 15 or older and adds open water training. The club's pool sessions and the y-40 trip offer students a range of environments to practice in. For scuba-trained divers at the club who want to cross-train in apnea, this course also serves as a reset — different equipment, different mindset, and a useful complement to regulator diving.

Freediver PADI

The Freediver PADI course at ClanDestino Sub moves beyond the Basic Freediver into open water training, and is taught by Davide Franceschetti, a certified PADI Freedive Instructor. The course covers breathing technique and relaxation both dry and in the water, develops static and dynamic apnea in the pool, and then moves to open water sessions to train in conditions beyond the pool environment. Lago di Garda is the natural option for the club's open water freediving work; the lake conditions at Garda are well suited to early open water apnea training. The club's approach to freediving is rooted in the same serious training culture that produced their 2017 seminar with Homar Leuci, a world-ranked competitive freediver who spent a full day with the group working on breath control, mental relaxation, and dynamic apnea in the water. Students joining the Freediver PADI course at this club are benefiting from that background. The training is structured through PADI's Freediver Touch digital materials for the theory component, with in-water sessions building progressively through static, dynamic, and then open water disciplines. Minimum age is 15 years. No prior freediving or scuba experience is required; good swimming ability and physical health are the prerequisites. The course does not require previous Basic Freediver certification, though students who have done the Basic will arrive with useful foundational skills. The full Freediver PADI certification positions students to continue into deeper apnea training or to use freediving as a complement to their scuba diving within the club's regular activity calendar. ClanDestino Sub's weekly pool sessions and group outings provide a natural continuation after certification. The club community has an active freediving cohort alongside the scuba membership, which means certified freedivers have training partners for pool sessions and open water days throughout the season.

Tec Trimix Diver

The Tec Trimix Diver course is the top of ClanDestino Sub's technical diving program, taught by Davide Franceschetti who holds a PADI Trimix Instructor qualification — a rating that is uncommon at a club-level operation anywhere, and particularly so in the inland north of Italy. The course covers planning and executing dives using trimix gas blends, managing multiple cylinders and gas switches, handling extended decompression obligations, and using the redundant equipment configurations required at these depths. Students reaching this level will already have completed the Tec 40, Tec 45, and Tec 50 stages of the PADI TecRec sequence. Prerequisites for the TecRec program generally include being 18 or older, having 100 logged dives, holding PADI Enriched Air Diver and Deep Diver certifications or documented equivalents, and providing medical clearance for technical diving. The progression through Tec 40, Tec 45, and Tec 50 builds the decompression planning, gas management, and equipment redundancy skills that Tec Trimix then extends to deeper exposures and helium-based mixtures. Each level is designed to be completed separately with time between, or run consecutively — the structure allows training to fit around the student's schedule and logistical constraints. Technical diving trips from this club focus on sites accessible from Lago di Garda and sea locations the group regularly visits. Deep wrecks and walls that fall outside the recreational depth ceiling are the main draw for divers who progress through the TecRec sequence to this level. Planning those dives requires the full toolkit that the Tec Trimix course develops: precise gas blending calculations, multi-stop decompression schedules, and the equipment discipline to manage equipment failures at depth where surfacing immediately is not an option. For divers already in the TecRec sequence with ClanDestino Sub, Davide's Trimix Instructor qualification means there's no need to seek out another instructor or travel to a specialist technical centre to complete the certification. That continuity — same instructor, same club, same diving community — is one of the practical advantages of a club that has built its technical program from Tec 40 through to Trimix rather than stopping partway up the stack.
