Advanced Open Water

The PADI Advanced Open Water course is for certified Open Water divers who want to extend their range and sharpen their technique. At Pura Aventura, the course runs in the same waters they use for the rest of their diving — the Costa Blanca coast, with access to Tabarca, Cabo de Palos and Cartagena. The Advanced course is built around five adventure dives, two of which are compulsory: deep diving (to 30 metres) and underwater navigation. The other three are chosen from the PADI speciality options. There is no written exam — the learning happens in the water. The deep dive in particular opens up a range of sites that an Open Water diver cannot legally access, including deeper reef structures and wrecks. For someone who completed their Open Water and found that 18 metres feels like a ceiling, this is the logical next step. It also serves as a prerequisite for the Rescue Diver course if that is where you are heading. Prices are not published on the website. Contact the team directly for rates; they work in Spanish, English and French.

Open Water Diver

The PADI Open Water Diver course is the standard starting point for anyone who wants a full certification rather than a one-day experience. At Pura Aventura, the course runs with PADI instructors in the waters of the Costa Blanca — including the marine reserve at Tabarca and the wider area around Cabo de Palos, Cartagena and Alicante. The Open Water certification is internationally recognised and does not expire. It qualifies you to dive to 18 metres with a buddy and rent equipment at any dive operation anywhere in the world. The PADI system is the most widely recognised recreational diving agency globally, which matters when you show up somewhere new and need to prove your level. The course structure follows the standard PADI format: theory (which can be completed through PADI's eLearning platform before travelling), confined water skills sessions covering the foundational techniques — mask clearing, regulator recovery, buoyancy control — and open water dives to complete the certification requirements in real conditions. Pricing is not listed on the website. Contact Pura Aventura directly for current rates and scheduling. The team handles enquiries in Spanish, English and French.

Curso PADI Dive Master

The PADI Divemaster course is the entry point into the professional side of PADI diving. At Pura Aventura it sits at the top of their course offering, above the Rescue Diver, and marks the transition from recreational diver to someone who can work in the industry: leading certified divers, assisting instructors during courses, and supervising diving activities. The practical demands are higher than anything on the recreational side. Timed swims, navigation exercises, buoyancy demonstrations, and direct involvement in entry-level course delivery are all part of the assessment. The Divemaster is not a classroom qualification — it is earned in the water over time, demonstrating consistent performance at a professional standard. For divers who want to turn diving into a job — at a resort, as a guide, or eventually training toward instructor status — the Divemaster is where it starts in the PADI system. Instructor-level training requires it as a prerequisite. Pricing and scheduling for the Divemaster programme are not published on the website. Direct enquiry is required for current availability and cost.

Curso PADI Rescue Diver

The PADI Rescue Diver course at Pura Aventura is aimed at certified divers who want to become more useful in the water — not just for themselves but for whoever they are diving with. The course teaches you to anticipate problems before they escalate and to manage real emergencies if they occur: recognising diver stress, assisting panicking or exhausted divers at the surface, handling an unresponsive diver, coordinating emergency procedures. It is widely considered the most demanding course in the PADI recreational system, not because of the conditions or depth, but because of the scenario-based training. Most divers who go through it come out thinking differently underwater — more aware of what is happening in the group, more automatic in dealing with small problems before they become big ones. For divers heading toward a Divemaster qualification, Rescue Diver is a prerequisite. For recreational divers with no intention of going professional, it is still the course that tends to produce the most noticeable change in how someone dives. Pricing is not listed on the website. Contact Pura Aventura directly for availability and rates.

Bautismo de Buceo

The introductory dive at Pura Aventura follows the official PADI Discover Scuba Diving programme and runs as two distinct dives — the split is deliberate, because the first one is not about exploring; it is about getting sorted. On land, your PADI instructor goes through the equipment piece by piece: how the BCD inflates and deflates, how to breathe steadily through the regulator, the hand signals you will use underwater when words are not an option. You do not enter the water until everyone in the group has that clearly. The first dive goes in shallow water. The depth keeps the instructor close and lets you practise without pressure: breathing through the regulator until it feels normal, adjusting buoyancy, and working through the exercises from the briefing in an environment where everything is manageable. Once the group is comfortable and the exercises are done, you surface for a break. After the rest, the second dive goes to a maximum of 12 metres in open water. By this point the regulator should feel routine, and the session shifts from practice to actual diving — looking at the seabed, watching the light change as you go deeper, taking in the marine environment around Alicante. A PADI instructor stays alongside you for both dives. The 130€ price covers full diving equipment, a dive-specific insurance policy and transport to and from the site. Pura Aventura runs the programme at several locations: Tabarca island, Cabo de Palos, Cartagena and Alicante, always entering from the shore in areas with calm conditions and visibility suited to first-timers. Photos and video during the dives are available for an additional 15€. The PADI DSD programme is also designed to count toward an Open Water certification if you decide to continue. The exercises completed here can be credited against the Open Water course requirements — so the two dives at 130€ are not a dead end if this turns into something more.
