They also offer Freediving training, with courses ranging from basic levels to Extended Range.

Hidrospot's facilities include lockers, a bar for post-dive relaxation, a swimming pool for confined water training, and the option for night dives. They provide a comprehensive equipment rental service and a dive shop for all needs. Air fills, including Nitrox, are also available.

The center is dedicated to exploring the underwater world and promotes marine conservation through its participation in SSI's "Mission Deep Blue" movement. Their mission is to make the beauty of the underwater world accessible to their clients, offering a memorable and educational diving experience.

Hidrospot also offers comprehensive training packages that combine courses like Specialty Diver, Advanced Open Water Diver, and Master Diver, providing a clear pathway to advanced certification. Curso Open Water Diver

Hidrospot's Open Water Diver is the full SSI certification programme — 6 theory sessions, 6 pool sessions, and 4 open water dives in the Atlantic off Porto and Gaia. The price of €460 includes equipment, insurance, all the dives, and the SSI certification itself, so there are no hidden extras to account for. Six pool sessions before the sea dives is more pool time than many centres offer, and it shows in how prepared students are when they hit open water. The Portuguese coast isn't forgiving — currents, visibility changes, and cooler temperatures are part of the picture — and the structured pool phase builds the muscle memory that matters when conditions aren't ideal. The certification is ISO 24801-2 compliant and recognised internationally. Once certified, you can dive independently to 18 metres worldwide. Several Hidrospot instructors hold multiple specialty instructor ratings alongside their Open Water Instructor credentials, which means the teaching quality during the course draws on a broader range of diving experience than you'd get from a centre with purely recreational staff. Hidrspot has been at this since 2010 and is licensed by IPDJ I.P. The Open Water Diver is the course most people who walk through the door are aiming for, and the centre's track record in delivering it is what 16 years of operation in the same location tends to produce.

Curso Advanced Open Water

The SSI Advanced Adventurer at Hidrospot is five open water dives across five different specialty disciplines — a way to sample what's available in the specialties catalogue before committing to any of them fully. The €260 price includes the SSI Advanced Adventurer certification and all five dives. The dives happen in Portuguese Atlantic waters, which means the specialties you sample are tested in real conditions. Night diving off Porto's coast is different from night diving in the Mediterranean — visibility and temperature play a role, and that context shapes the training. Whatever specialties you choose to sample, the dives are crediteable toward the full specialty programme if you decide to continue. For divers who finished their Open Water and aren't sure which direction to take next, this is a practical way to explore without over-committing. Hidrospot's specialty instructor roster covers a wide range — wreck, deep, nitrox, stress and rescue, navigation, boat diving, drysuit, and more — so there's real choice in what you can include in those five dives. The course is taught in Portuguese and runs alongside Hidrospot's standard scheduling, which accommodates individual availability rather than fixed class blocks.

Try Scuba

The Try Scuba is Hidrospot's entry point — a single pool session that gets you breathing underwater without any commitment to a certification programme. Porto isn't tropical diving, but that first breath from a regulator is the same wherever you are, and doing it in a controlled pool environment with an SSI instructor makes the experience straightforward. The session is run at the centre's pool facilities, and you come out with the SSI Try Scuba recognition level. For most people who do this, the real question is what comes next. If you decide to continue within six months, the pool session can be credited toward the Basic Diver or Scuba Diver programmes. It's a low-risk way to figure out whether you want to go further. The programme is aimed at anyone curious about diving who isn't ready to block out the time a full course requires. No prior experience needed, just the ability to get in a pool. Instructors hold React Right and oxygen administration certifications — standard across all Hidrospot staff — so the safety baseline is there even for a one-off introductory session.

Basic Diver

The Basic Diver sits between the Try Scuba pool session and the full Scuba Diver certification — it adds an open water dive to the confined water training, giving you the experience of actual sea diving without committing to a longer programme. The structure is one theory session, one pool session, and one sea dive off the Portuguese coast. For someone with limited time who still wants to get in the Atlantic, this is a sensible option. The sea dive is a real open water experience, not a lagoon or sheltered bay — Porto's coast has character, and the Hidrospot team knows how to manage conditions for first-timers. If you decide to continue, that sea dive can be credited toward the SSI Scuba Diver or SSI Open Water Diver programmes within six months, so nothing is wasted. The Basic Diver is also known as a baptism dive in Portuguese dive culture — a tradition the centre has built part of its beginner offering around. All staff hold React Right and oxygen administration certifications, which matters when you're taking someone into open water for the first time.

Scuba Diver

The SSI Scuba Diver is the option Hidrospot recommends for people who want a proper introduction to diving but can't commit to the full Open Water Diver schedule. Three theory sessions, three pool sessions, and two sea dives — enough to get comfortable underwater and earn a certification that works in open water under professional supervision. The two sea dives take place in Portuguese Atlantic waters, which means real conditions rather than sheltered tropical reefs. Learning buoyancy control and basic skills here prepares you for diving anywhere. The Scuba Diver certification can be upgraded to the full SSI Open Water Diver with additional training, so it's not a dead end. Hidrspot has been running courses in this area since 2010, and the instructors — several of whom also hold skipper qualifications — know which sites work for different experience levels. The course is taught in Portuguese. For divers who later want the full independent certification, the Scuba Diver serves as a solid foundation that can be built on without repeating ground already covered.

Public Safety Diver 1

Hidrospot runs the full four-level SSI Public Safety Diver programme, designed for professional divers working in emergency services — firefighters, police, military. Level 1 covers foundational skills; Level 2 adds deep diving, search and recovery techniques; Level 3 includes decompression diving below 40 metres using air or trimix; Level 3 Overhead covers rescue operations in enclosed environments such as caves and caverns. Vitor Sequeira, Hidrospot's technical director, holds Public Safety Diver Instructor certification alongside his Extended Range Trimix and SSI Instructor Trainer ratings. Running this programme credibly requires that level of technical background, and the centre has it. Rui Belchior also holds the Professional Diver qualification. This is not a programme you'd find at most recreational dive centres. The fact that Hidrospot delivers it — including the overhead and decompression levels — reflects the technical orientation of the centre's senior staff. Pricing is on request. The programme is relevant to any diver working or training in public safety roles in Portugal. The centre is licensed by IPDJ I.P., which matters for the official recognition of professional training in Portuguese jurisdiction.

SSI Explorers (Scuba Rangers)

The SSI Explorers programme at Hidrospot is designed for children between 8 and 12 years old. Sessions run in the pool or confined water areas at a maximum depth of 5 metres — the safety boundaries are built into the programme structure, not left to discretion on the day. The programme focuses on objectives-based learning and team skills alongside the diving itself. Instructors who teach it hold specific qualifications for working with this age group. Hidrospot's general safety baseline — React Right and oxygen administration certification across all staff — applies here too. Price is on request; contact the centre directly for current rates and scheduling. The programme runs under the SSI Explorers umbrella and leads to the Explorer recognition level on completion. For families based in Porto or Gaia where children want an introduction to the water beyond swimming lessons, this is one of the few structured junior diving programmes available in the area.

Try Freediving / Pool Freediver / SSI Freediver

Hidrospot's freediving programme runs under Peter Li (Jiaxin Li), who holds SSI Freediving Instructor, AIDA Instructor, and AIDA Youth Instructor credentials. His personal bests — 5'36" static apnea, 130 metres dynamic bifin, 80 metres dynamic no fins, 30 metres constant weight no fins — put him at a competitive level, which matters when you're learning breath-hold technique. The programme runs from a Try Freediving introduction through Pool Freediver to the full SSI Freediver certification. The centre announced a new era in freediving training with Peter Li's arrival, opening the programme to new students who want to pursue the discipline seriously. Training takes place in the pool for confined-water phases and in open water for depth work. Sofia Gonçalves, one of the senior instructors, also holds Pool Freediving Instructor certification, so the freediving programme has more than one qualified instructor behind it. Pricing for the freediving courses is not listed on the site — contact Hidrospot directly for current rates and scheduling. For divers in the Porto area curious about apnea as a discipline rather than just a technique to improve their scuba diving, having an AIDA-qualified instructor with documented personal records on site is a genuine differentiator.
