Waves, Tides & Currents

The SSI Waves, Tides & Currents specialty course at this center focuses on understanding and safely navigating challenging aquatic environments. This specialty certification is designed to equip divers with the knowledge to anticipate and react to the dynamic forces of nature. You will learn how to plan dives considering wave patterns, tidal shifts, and current flows, ensuring a safer and more enjoyable diving experience. The practical application of these skills will be honed through specific dives conducted at local sites known for their distinct water movements, allowing you to directly observe and manage these phenomena under instructor supervision. This course is offered in conjunction with SSI, a globally recognized certification agency.

This region offers a unique diving environment influenced by its climate, with sea temperatures averaging 27.6°C. While the air temperature can fluctuate significantly throughout the year, reaching highs of 39.9°C in July and August and dropping to 16.2°C in December, the underwater conditions provide consistent opportunities for learning. The course leverages these conditions to teach practical skills, such as identifying rip currents and understanding how tides affect visibility and entry/exit points. Divers will gain an appreciation for how these natural elements shape the local marine ecosystem, making each dive a lesson in oceanography as well as diving technique.
