Technical Diving

Technical Foundations takes the diver to 45 m with up to 30 minutes of staged decompression. The main new skill here is working with a twin-valve cylinder or sidemount configuration, plus stage bottles for decompression gas — a significant equipment step from the recreational setup.

Advanced dive planning is built into the course, covering gas management, decompression gas selection, and the logistics of multi-stage dives. Ocean Dreams runs this through the SSI TXR curriculum, with Jan Lambert as the TXR-rated instructor.

Prerequisites are demanding: Advanced Open Water Diver, Diver Stress & Rescue, Enriched Air Nitrox, 50 logged dives, and existing certification in Deep Diving, Navigation, or Cavern diving. The entry bar is intentional — at 45 m with decompression obligations, there's limited margin for gaps in foundation skills.

The course connects directly into Decompression Procedures (55 m) and the trimix pathway. The Canary Islands' clear water and the deeper profiles available around Tenerife's southern sites make this a practical location for training dives at this level.
