SSI Explorers (Scuba Rangers)

The SSI Explorers programme at Hidrospot is designed for children between 8 and 12 years old. Sessions run in the pool or confined water areas at a maximum depth of 5 metres — the safety boundaries are built into the programme structure, not left to discretion on the day. The programme focuses on objectives-based learning and team skills alongside the diving itself. Instructors who teach it hold specific qualifications for working with this age group. Hidrospot's general safety baseline — React Right and oxygen administration certification across all staff — applies here too. Price is on request; contact the centre directly for current rates and scheduling. The programme runs under the SSI Explorers umbrella and leads to the Explorer recognition level on completion. For families based in Porto or Gaia where children want an introduction to the water beyond swimming lessons, this is one of the few structured junior diving programmes available in the area.

Try Freediving / Pool Freediver / SSI Freediver

Hidrospot's freediving programme runs under Peter Li (Jiaxin Li), who holds SSI Freediving Instructor, AIDA Instructor, and AIDA Youth Instructor credentials. His personal bests — 5'36" static apnea, 130 metres dynamic bifin, 80 metres dynamic no fins, 30 metres constant weight no fins — put him at a competitive level, which matters when you're learning breath-hold technique. The programme runs from a Try Freediving introduction through Pool Freediver to the full SSI Freediver certification. The centre announced a new era in freediving training with Peter Li's arrival, opening the programme to new students who want to pursue the discipline seriously. Training takes place in the pool for confined-water phases and in open water for depth work. Sofia Gonçalves, one of the senior instructors, also holds Pool Freediving Instructor certification, so the freediving programme has more than one qualified instructor behind it.
