8 cursosSSI Open Water Diver
The SSI Open Water Diver course at Brothers Diving is the full entry-level certification, allowing graduates to dive independently with a buddy to 18 metres anywhere in the world. Brothers Diving describes it as the world's most popular diving certification through SSI, and it's the natural next step for anyone who has completed the Scuba Diver programme — roughly half the work is already done. The course combines online theory via the mySSI app, confined water practice sessions at Brothers Diving's centre, and open water dives in Gran Canaria. The mySSI materials — manuals, videos, quizzes and exams — are accessible from the moment you book, so theory can be completed before arriving on the island. Practical training covers scuba gear operation, buoyancy, underwater navigation, safety procedures, and dive planning. Brothers Diving's instructors hold dual SSI and PADI ratings, and the approach follows SSI's methodology: students practise each skill until they're comfortable and confident, not just until they've ticked a box. Open water dives take place at Gran Canaria coastal sites. The same premium equipment used across all Brothers Diving programmes — Fourth Element and Scubapro wetsuits, Cressi masks, Tecline fins, Mares BCDs — is provided during the course. Transport from Maspalomas is included. Minimum age is 10; under-18s need parental consent.
SSI Scuba Diver
The SSI Scuba Diver course at Brothers Diving in Gran Canaria runs over two days and ends with an internationally recognised SSI certification allowing you to dive to 12 metres under the supervision of a professional. It's a condensed route into certification — roughly half the scope of the Open Water Diver course — designed for people who want a legitimate qualification without committing to the full programme upfront. Theory is handled through the mySSI app before you arrive in Gran Canaria if you want to make the most of your time on the island. The app covers gear, underwater communication, buoyancy, and pressure — all at your own pace. Quizzes and the exam are also available remotely, so there's no need to sit in a classroom on day one. Confined water sessions at Brothers Diving focus on breathing technique, buoyancy control, and the basic safety procedures you'll use in the open ocean. The instructors — all dual SSI and PADI rated — run these sessions with the same care they bring to the intro programmes. Two open water dives in Gran Canaria's coastal sites follow, putting the confined-water skills into practice in the actual ocean. The €399 fee includes e-learning access via mySSI, two confined water sessions, two open water dives, diving insurance, all equipment (Fourth Element, Scubapro, Cressi, Tecline, Mares), transport from Maspalomas, a Brothers Diving T-shirt, and a dive log via the mySSI app. Booking requires a €100 deposit that grants immediate e-learning access. The deposit is non-refundable but never expires, and the e-learning works at any SSI centre worldwide if your plans change. Minimum age is 10.
SSI Divemaster
The Divemaster programme at Brothers Diving is the entry point into diving as a profession. It begins with the Dive Guide and Science of Diving programmes and progresses to the full SSI Divemaster qualification, which authorises graduates to guide certified divers and assist instructors in teaching courses. Brothers Diving's three founders — Myles, Mario, and Alessandra — are all working SSI and PADI instructors who came through the professional route themselves, across centres in Malta, Australia, Spain, and South East Asia. The mentorship available at a centre run by active instructors is more direct than at larger operations where professionals are less accessible. The programme suits people who are serious about making a career change into the diving industry. Brothers Diving describes it as the first step toward becoming a dive instructor, building on the skills and knowledge gained through recreational courses to reach a standard where you can take responsibility for other divers in the water.
Enriched Air Nitrox
The SSI Enriched Air Nitrox specialty at Brothers Diving is worth doing if you plan to run multiple dives in a day, which is the norm in Gran Canaria. Nitrox reduces nitrogen absorption compared to standard air, extending bottom time and leaving you less fatigued by the afternoon — a practical difference on any multi-dive trip. Brothers Diving runs its own Coltri compressors and fills nitrox on-site up to 32%, so certified Nitrox divers have access to the fills directly at the centre. The certification obtained here is valid for life with no expiry date, according to the centre. The course follows SSI's standard Enriched Air Nitrox specialty structure: theory covering the physiology, benefits, and planning considerations for diving with higher oxygen mixes, followed by the practical application on dives. Gran Canaria's coastal sites provide the open water component. This specialty pairs naturally with the Deep Diving and Perfect Buoyancy programs also offered at Brothers Diving, since Nitrox becomes particularly useful when pushing toward the 30–40 metre depth range the Deep Diving specialty covers.
Try Scuba
The Try Scuba SSI programme at Brothers Diving in Gran Canaria is a single-dive introduction to scuba, running roughly four hours from start to finish. There's no certification exam involved — the goal is straightforward: get you comfortable underwater and into the ocean at Playa de Amadores, Playa de Tufia, or Risco Verde, whichever site conditions favour that morning. The session starts at the dive centre with about 30 minutes covering the basics — how the gear works, how to breathe through the regulator, simple hand signals. Then you try on the wetsuit and the rest of the kit before loading into one of Brothers Diving's transport vans for the drive to the site, up to 25 minutes away. The site is picked on the day, always with an easy entry and exit in mind. In the water, the instructor stays right alongside you. The ratio is capped at 2:1 — one instructor for every two beginners — so there's no moment where you're left wondering what to do next. Depth goes up to 10 metres if you're comfortable, with up to an hour underwater depending on your air consumption. Equipment is from Fourth Element, Scubapro, Cressi, Tecline and Mares — the same gear used across all Brothers Diving programmes. The €99 fee covers everything: full scuba equipment, dive insurance, and transport from Maspalomas or nearby. Booking requires only a €20 deposit, and rescheduling is free. Cancellations within 24 hours of the dive forfeit the deposit. Minimum age is 8; under-18s need a signed parental consent form.
Basic Diver SSI
The Basic Diver SSI programme at Brothers Diving is the two-dive version of the introductory experience, running approximately six hours. No certification is issued, but completion of this programme counts towards the SSI Open Water Diver course if you decide to continue, which makes it a smarter entry point than a single Try Scuba dive if you think diving might stick. Like the Try Scuba, the session begins at the Brothers Diving centre with hands-on equipment training and a safety briefing before heading out to one of the three standard introductory sites — Playa de Amadores, Tufia, or Risco Verde — in the centre's transport van. The site is confirmed on the day. Depth on these dives goes up to 12 metres, a step above the Try Scuba limit. The format across the six hours is relaxed and unhurried. Two ocean dives with an instructor alongside — the same 2:1 ratio as the Try Scuba — plus the equipment fitting and briefing sessions. Gear is the same premium-quality kit used across all Brothers Diving programmes: Fourth Element and Scubapro wetsuits, Cressi masks, Tecline fins, Mares BCDs. At the end, participants receive a digital recognition card from SSI, which serves as a useful record if they decide to progress to the Scuba Diver or Open Water Diver courses later. Price includes equipment, insurance, and transport from Maspalomas. Minimum age is 10; under-18s require signed parental consent.
React Right
React Right is Brothers Diving's SSI first aid and emergency response course, covering primary patient assessment, CPR, first aid, oxygen administration, and basic AED operation. It meets global emergency care standards and results in the SSI React Right certification on completion. The course runs through both academic and practical sessions, building the muscle memory needed to respond calmly in a real situation rather than just knowing the theory. For divers working toward Divemaster or already leading groups in the water, a current first aid qualification is standard practice. Brothers Diving offers React Right as a standalone course alongside the rest of their SSI curriculum. The certification is recognised by SSI internationally and pairs logically with the Diver Stress and Rescue programme for anyone building toward a complete safety skill set.
SSI Diver Stress & Rescue
The SSI Diver Stress and Rescue course at Brothers Diving trains you to spot problems before they escalate and to manage genuine emergencies in and around the water. It sits at the more serious end of the Brothers Diving curriculum, but the centre describes it as both rigorous and genuinely fun — the combination of real-world skills with scenario-based practice tends to produce that effect. The programme covers stress recognition, accident prevention, in-water rescues, and post-incident care. Practical sessions run in both confined and open water, working through realistic emergency scenarios with Brothers Diving's instructors guiding and evaluating. Completion earns the SSI Diver Stress and Rescue Specialty certification. This course is a standard prerequisite for the Divemaster programme, which Brothers Diving also offers in full. If the professional route is in the back of your mind, getting Stress & Rescue done during a Gran Canaria trip is an efficient use of time. The instructors at Brothers Diving have SSI Divemaster-level experience and supervise the course's practical scenarios with that background.
