The PADI Sidemount course at DSDIVERS MADRID teaches the configuration where tanks are mounted at the sides rather than on the back. It is a growing discipline that started in technical and cave diving and has moved into recreational use. The advantages: better trim, access to tank valves without removing the BCD, and the option to add a second tank for extended bottom time.
The course is practical — you need to get comfortable with a completely different buoyancy and propulsion feel. For Madrid divers considering technical diving down the line, sidemount is a logical stepping stone that the centre has in their catalog alongside the deeper specialties.
