Nitrox

The PADI Nitrox specialty at DSDIVERS MADRID certifies you to dive with enriched air mixtures of up to 40% oxygen. For divers who travel on liveaboards or do multiple dives per day — which fits the profile of DSDIVERS clients heading to the Red Sea, Maldivas or Filipinas — nitrox extends bottom time and reduces surface interval requirements at recreational depths. The course is primarily theoretical. You learn to analyse tanks, set your computer, and plan dives correctly for the mix in use. It is one of the most useful specialties to have before joining an organised trip, and the centre's travel programme gives you plenty of immediate opportunities to use it.

Details

Traje seco

The Drysuit Diver specialty at DSDIVERS MADRID is relevant for anyone planning to dive in cold water — whether in Spain's northern coast, in northern Europe, or in altitude reservoirs. A drysuit handles buoyancy differently from a wetsuit, and the inflation/deflation of the suit adds a variable that needs specific practice before diving in cold or deep water. The course covers the theory of thermal protection, suit types and seals, and includes confined and open water dives in the suit. For divers who travel to locations where water temperatures drop below what a wetsuit handles comfortably, this certification is worth having before the trip rather than learning on site.

Details

Nocturno

The Night Diver specialty was added to the DSDIVERS MADRID catalogue in 2026. Night diving changes the experience completely — torches, different fauna, navigation by compass and landmarks instead of visual references. The course covers planning a night dive, communication signals with torches, and managing light in low-visibility conditions. For a Madrid-based centre, running night dives requires coordinating travel to water. The course is listed as a standalone specialty, suitable for Open Water certified divers and above. It also counts as one of the optional adventure dives within the Advanced Open Water programme.

Bubblemaker

The Bubblemaker is PADI's programme for children who want to try scuba in a pool environment. At DSDIVERS MADRID it sits alongside the PADI Seal Team as the two dedicated kids' programmes. The centre has worked with schools and local government — including the Ayuntamiento de Getafe — for organised youth diving sessions, so they have experience managing groups of younger participants. The session is entirely pool-based and supervised at very close range. It is designed to be a positive first experience rather than a skills evaluation. Children who enjoy it can progress to the Seal Team, which adds structured underwater missions and eventually leads to the full junior certification pathway.

EFR (Emergency First Response)

The EFR course at DSDIVERS MADRID covers primary and secondary care in emergency situations: CPR, AED use, and first aid for non-diving emergencies. It is the prerequisite for the PADI Rescue Diver course, but valid in general emergency contexts as well. The theory component is available as elearning. The practical component involves hands-on scenarios with mannequins and simulated situations. For divers on the professional track, EFR is a required step before Divemaster. For recreational divers, it is a useful complement to any level of certification.

Open Water Diver

The PADI Open Water Diver is the full entry-level certification and the most common course at DSDIVERS MADRID. It combines theory — available in elearning format — with pool sessions and four open water dives. The blog records successful completions at Navalagamella, which is where the open water portion is typically done for Madrid-based students. Navalagamella gives you a controlled environment for the first dives: no surge, no current, manageable visibility. It is not the Mediterranean, but for learning buoyancy control and mask clearing, it does the job. Students who want sea conditions after certification have the option of the centre's Gran Canaria location. Once certified, the Open Water card is recognised worldwide and opens the door to the full PADI specialty and advanced course catalogue that DSDIVERS MADRID offers.

Discover Scuba Diving

The Discover Scuba Diving at DSDIVERS MADRID is the first contact with breathing underwater for someone with no prior experience. Theory is brief and practical: you learn what you need to get in the water, nothing more. The session takes place under direct instructor supervision at all times. For Madrid residents, getting into open water means leaving the city. The centre uses locations such as Navalagamella for open water sessions, which gives first-timers a calmer environment than the sea. The focus is on comfort with the equipment before anything else. This is also how many students decide whether to continue toward an Open Water certification. The progression is natural — Discover Scuba leads directly into the full PADI Open Water course if you want to carry on.

Advanced Open Water

The Advanced Open Water at DSDIVERS MADRID covers five adventure dives, two of which — Deep and Navigation — are mandatory. The remaining three can be chosen from the specialty catalogue, which at this centre includes Wreck, Nitrox, Buoyancy, Night and others. That flexibility lets you shape the course around what you actually want to dive. The theory component is available as elearning, which is practical for people working full-time in Madrid. The in-water sessions take place at locations outside the city; Navalagamella is used for inland sessions, and the Gran Canaria centre is an option for those who want sea conditions. Completing the Advanced Open Water raises your certified depth to 30 m and is the logical next step before tackling Rescue Diver or any of the deeper specialties.

Rescue Diver

The PADI Rescue Diver at DSDIVERS MADRID is one of the more demanding recreational courses in the catalogue. It requires EFR (Emergency First Response) certification first — also available at the centre — and covers self-rescue, recognising and managing stress in other divers, and surface and underwater rescue scenarios. The blog records a Rescue Diver course completed in Tenerife, indicating the centre sometimes runs this course on coast trips. The theory is available as elearning. The practical scenarios are the core of this course: towing an unresponsive diver, removing equipment in the water, exits onto a boat or shore. These are skills that shift how you think about diving generally, not just in emergencies. Rescue Diver is the prerequisite for the Divemaster programme, so it is a natural step for anyone considering the professional track.

Divemaster

The PADI Divemaster at DSDIVERS MADRID is the entry point into the professional track. It is the first level at which you can legally guide certified divers and assist instructors during courses. The theory is available as elearning, and the practical component involves logged dives, stamina development and assisting with actual student courses at the centre. As a Divemaster candidate here you work alongside the centre's instructors during real courses — Open Water, Advanced, specialty classes — which gives you exposure to different student types and dive environments. The centre runs a continuous schedule of recreational courses, so there is no shortage of opportunities to accumulate assistant hours. For candidates who complete Divemaster at DSDIVERS MADRID, the logical next step is the IDC (Instructor Development Course) and the PADI IE, both of which the centre also offers.

Instructor Development Course

The PADI Instructor Development Course at DSDIVERS MADRID takes a certified Divemaster through the training required to sit the PADI Instructor Examination (IE). The theory component is available as elearning. The practical part covers teaching confined water skills, open water dives and the presentation standards assessed at the IE. The centre also offers the IDC Staff Instructor level for instructors who want to assist Course Directors during IDC programmes. Both the Instructor and IDC Staff Instructor courses have elearning options listed in the product catalogue. Madrid is an unusual city to train as a dive instructor — most candidates assume they need to be by the coast. DSDIVERS MADRID makes the case that the theoretical and pool components can be done inland, with open water and sea sessions organised through their network, including the Gran Canaria centre.

Sidemount

The PADI Sidemount course at DSDIVERS MADRID teaches the configuration where tanks are mounted at the sides rather than on the back. It is a growing discipline that started in technical and cave diving and has moved into recreational use. The advantages: better trim, access to tank valves without removing the BCD, and the option to add a second tank for extended bottom time. The course is practical — you need to get comfortable with a completely different buoyancy and propulsion feel. For Madrid divers considering technical diving down the line, sidemount is a logical stepping stone that the centre has in their catalog alongside the deeper specialties.
