Conservation efforts include a home water filter project, coral baseline data research, tiger shark identification, and weekly tiger shark presentations.
It's a project started in early 2022 to fund and install home mini RO water filters in local Fuvahmulah homes.
These efforts began about 6 years ago with the tiger shark ID project, identifying 248 individuals. Weekly presentations about tiger sharks are also held.
Tiger sharks are present year-round. Whale sharks visit between January to May, and oceanic mantas pass through between March to May. Scalloped hammerheads are typically seen from October to April.
Divers can potentially encounter seven types of sharks, including tiger sharks, thresher sharks, scalloped hammerhead sharks, whale sharks, silver tip sharks, grey reef sharks, and white tip sharks.
