You will learn to efficiently locate lost objects, including potentially lost divers, and bring them to the surface safely. The curriculum emphasizes techniques for object location using line reels and natural navigation, ensuring your search efforts are productive and focused.

Once an object is identified, the course transitions to the safest and most effective recovery methods. This involves a deep understanding of buoyancy principles, lift calculations, and the proper deployment of specialized recovery equipment. The objective is to empower divers to conduct search and recovery operations responsibly, minimizing risks to themselves and the underwater environment. This specialty is offered by a center certified by IDEA, SSI, and TDI, ensuring high standards of training.

Your training begins with an academic review session at Tiedemann's Diving Center on Long Island. This theoretical foundation is then applied during two practical dives conducted at Dutch Springs, a popular dive site known for its excellent training conditions. These dives provide a real-world environment to practice the skills learned under the direct supervision of experienced instructors. The water temperature in Dutch Springs can vary significantly throughout the year, with averages ranging from 1.2°C in January to potentially warmer temperatures in summer months, though specific monthly averages are not provided for this site.
