Scooter / DPV Diving
The Scooter/DPV Diving specialty at Scubazores takes two days and mirrors the Sea Scooter activity the centre already runs commercially, where participants use underwater propulsion vehicles during guided dives. Doing the specialty course gives divers the skills to handle a DPV independently rather than as a supervised activity. Scubazores explicitly markets Sea Scooter Dive as a differentiating activity on Ilha Terceira, and running both the recreational version and the SSI specialty means instructors are clearly experienced with DPV operations in local conditions. The waters around Angra do Heroísmo and the north coast sites offer varied terrain — walls, sandy channels, cavern entrances — that make DPV diving genuinely useful rather than a novelty. The course is conducted in Portuguese and English, in line with all Scubazores SSI programmes.
Perfect Buoyancy
The SSI Perfect Buoyancy specialty at Scubazores runs 6 to 10 hours and addresses what most divers consider the single biggest gap between theory and actual comfort underwater. Buoyancy control has a direct practical impact on the cave and cavern sites Scubazores uses regularly — stirring up silt in an enclosed space like Gruta das Cinco Ribeiras or Gruta dos Cavaco makes the dive worse for everyone. The course is run in Portuguese and English. It can be combined with other specialty programmes at the centre as part of a multi-day visit to Terceira, and it counts toward SSI's Master Diver rating.
