You will need the original and copies of your vessel documentation, Temporary Import Permit (TIP), passports for all crew, Mexican Tourist Cards (FMM), proof of liability insurance, fishing permits (if applicable), a crew list showing international clear-in, and a notarized permission letter for minors if not accompanied by both parents. A Letter of Authorization is needed if a captain is left in charge.
The TIP can be obtained online before departure via Banjercito's website or at the first official port of entry. For those arriving from the US Pacific side, Ensenada is recommended for processing immigration, Port Captain, and TIP paperwork. In La Paz, the Banjército office is at the ferry terminal in Pichilingue. You'll need your passport, tourist card, vessel documentation, and engine numbers. A fee of $60.00 USD applies. The permit is valid for 10 years and allows multiple entries.
It is illegal to sell a temporarily imported vessel in Mexico or its territorial waters. Sales must be completed offshore after cancelling the TIP and clearing international waters. All travelers need a Mexican 'Tourist Card,' now called a Visitor FMM (Forma Migratoria Multiple de Visitante sin permiso para realizar actividades remuneradas). This can be obtained online in advance or at your first official port of entry. The cost is approximately 638.00 pesos (as of 2022) and is valid for up to 180 days. It's recommended to obtain it online individually to ensure separate receipts.
