Battesimo del Mare – Half Day

The half-day Discover Scuba experience runs along the Argentario coast, from Porto Ercole. Four hours is enough time for the briefing, a shallow water introduction to the regulator and buoyancy control, and a real open-water dive — all without any prior experience or certification required. The session uses one of the two centre inflatables, so group sizes stay manageable. The Argentario coastline offers rocky reef and mixed seabed typical of the northern Tyrrhenian, with visibility that varies by season but is generally good in the summer months when most beginners visit. All equipment is provided. The instructors here are comfortable working with first-timers who speak English, French, or Italian — multiple reviews mention how quickly new divers felt at ease. The half-day format suits guests with a tight schedule or who want to try diving before committing to a full course. At €110 this is the entry point to Argentario Divers' recreational offering. If the half day leaves you wanting more, the same centre runs the full Open Water Diver course over three to four days, so there's a clear next step.

Corso Open Water Diver

The Open Water Diver course at Argentario Divers runs over three to four days and certifies under PADI or SSI — both internationally recognised, usable at dive centres worldwide. The theoretical component is covered in the centre's dedicated classroom, equipped with a large screen and wi-fi for e-learning modules. Pool or confined water sessions happen at the centre's base in Porto Ercole, and open water dives take place along the Argentario coast or at the islands, depending on conditions. The instructors here operate on a stretch of Tyrrhenian coast where the seabed changes noticeably between summer and winter, so even a four-day course covers a range of underwater environments. All equipment for the course is included in the price. The centre's rental inventory covers everything from masks and fins to BCDs and regulators — students don't need to own any gear to complete certification. Once certified, the same equipment can be rented for subsequent dives. At €490–€560 depending on configuration, this is the standard entry to independent diving. Argentario Divers has been running this course since at least 2005, and the instructor team is large enough that scheduling is flexible. The UTD Recreational 1 course is an alternative first-certification path available at this centre for those who want to learn the DIR system from the start.

Corso Divemaster

The Divemaster course at Argentario Divers runs over eight days and represents the first professional-level certification under PADI or SSI. Working alongside the centre's instructors, candidates refine both dive skills and rescue ability, learning to anticipate and manage problems before they escalate. Argentario Divers is an active, multi-boat operation year-round, which means Divemaster candidates train in a real working environment: guiding certified divers on full-day trips to Giannutri and Giglio, assisting on courses at various levels, and handling the day-to-day logistics of a busy dive centre. That exposure is different from completing a Divemaster at a seasonal resort operation. The centre's technical background — UTD, rebreather, and technical gas — means the Divemaster candidate sees a wider range of diving operations than at a purely recreational centre. Even if the candidate's own focus is recreational, familiarity with technical configurations and gas blending operations is part of the working context here. At €1,200 the course covers eight full days. As with other courses, the centre offers both collective and personalised formats — the latter dedicated entirely to a single student following an agreed programme.

Essential of Tech

The UTD Essential of Tech is a five-day full-time course that functions as the entry point to technical diving at Argentario Divers — the first step in a programme the centre has been running since 1998, the longest-running UTD technical operation in Italy. The focus is less on depth records and more on building the self-awareness and team coordination that technical diving demands. Students learn to manage their configuration, read their own body position underwater, and operate efficiently as part of a two or three-person team. The Argentario coast and its surrounding wrecks provide the training environment: actual open-water sites with real conditions, not a pool exercise in open water. Argentario Divers carries the full technical infrastructure to support this course: twinsets, deco cylinders, stage bottles, and a fill station capable of blending trimix and nitrox with real-time gas analysis. Students train with the same gear they'll use on subsequent technical dives, rather than scaled-down recreational equipment. This course is the prerequisite for the UTD Tech 1 Diver programme (€1,300), which takes divers to trimix depths using standardised gas mixes. The centre's instructor team includes both recreational and technical instructors, and Simone Nicolini — one of the owners — is involved in the technical training programme.

Corso Tech 1 Diver

The UTD Tech 1 Diver course runs over five full days and is the first course in UTD's technical certification track that puts divers on trimix. Students work with gas mixes at 25/25, 21/35 or 18/45 (oxygen/helium), carry a single deco cylinder with a choice between Nitrox 50 and 100% oxygen, and learn to plan and execute two technical dives in a single day. At Argentario Divers this course runs on actual technical dive sites — the wrecks Marsala, Pramnos, and Mister X, and the seamounts Secca di Mezzo Canale and Secca di Zi Costante are all part of the technical dive programme from Porto Ercole. These sites give the course real operational context: students aren't practising theoretical deep dives in shallow water. The centre's fill station blends all required gases on site. Trimix is available with 24 hours' notice, and the multigas analyser reads helium, oxygen, CO, CO2, humidity and temperature simultaneously — students analyse their own gas before every dive as part of the UTD protocol. Tech 1 requires completion of Essential of Tech or an equivalent technical entry course. From here, Tech 2 (60 metres, extended deco, €1,300) and Tech 3 (multiple deco cylinders and stage bottles, €1,300) continue the progression within the same centre.

Corso Sidemount

Sidemount diving at Argentario Divers is offered in a context that goes beyond the recreational application — the centre's technical programme uses sidemount configurations for wreck and cave diving, and the equipment inventory includes three dedicated sidemount kits alongside twinsets and stage cylinders. The technique involves positioning cylinders along the diver's sides rather than on the back, which improves horizontal trim, reduces drag, and makes it easier to attach and detach cylinders in the water. The centre's text traces the configuration's origins to British cave divers in the 1960s, and that heritage is reflected in how Argentario Divers uses it — as a tool for overhead environments and technical diving, not just a comfort option for recreational divers. Training takes place in the open water around Porto Ercole, on the same stretches of coast and island approaches the centre uses for its regular dive programme. The Argentario coast's rocky seabed and moderate depth profile suits the confined-space drills that sidemount training requires before moving into more complex environments. Students who continue into UTD technical courses will encounter sidemount as a standard configuration option. The centre stocks sidemount rental gear for certified users, so the equipment is available beyond the course itself.
