Offered by Divexplore
Bridgend, Wales
Course Description
The SDI Night Diver / Limited Visibility Diver specialty course, offered by Divexplore, is designed for certified open water divers eager to explore the underwater world after sunset or in conditions where visibility is reduced. This course provides the essential knowledge and skills to safely conduct night dives and dives in low-visibility environments. You will learn specialized techniques for navigating and interacting with marine life that becomes active during these conditions. The curriculum emphasizes the critical use of dive lights, including primary and backup systems, and personal dive beacons for signaling.
Key topics covered include understanding the unique challenges and rewards of night diving, identifying nocturnal aquatic creatures, and adapting to reduced visibility. Navigation techniques tailored for low-light conditions, such as using bottom contours, compass bearings, and reference points, are a significant focus. The course also delves into the importance of the buddy system, focusing on maintaining contact, communication methods, and procedures for disorientation or separation.
Safety is paramount, with detailed instruction on buoyancy control considerations specific to night or low-visibility dives. Emergency procedures for scenarios like light failure or losing a buddy are thoroughly reviewed. The course aims to build confidence and competence, allowing divers to safely experience the different world that emerges underwater when light diminishes. The price for this specialty is £195, which includes tuition and an eLearning code.
