Course Description
The PADI Advanced Open Water Diver course at Cathedral Cove Dive & Snorkel builds directly on your Open Water certification, preparing you for more challenging dives and diverse underwater environments. This program typically includes five adventure dives, with mandatory Deep Dive and Underwater Navigation components. You will select three additional dives based on your interests, such as wreck diving, night diving, drift diving, or underwater photography, all conducted over two days from their specialized boat at various local sites renowned for their marine life.
The mandatory Deep Dive introduces techniques and considerations for diving between 18 and 30 meters, focusing on air management, decompression sickness risks, and the physiological effects of increased pressure. The Underwater Navigation Dive sharpens your compass skills and use of natural references, ensuring confident dive planning and execution. These skills are crucial for exploring sites like South Sunk Rock and Russ's Revine, which offer varied topography and marine encounters.
Cathedral Cove Dive & Snorkel leverages the rich underwater environment of the Coromandel Peninsula for this advanced training. While specific monthly climate data is not provided, the region is known for its clear waters and abundant marine life, offering excellent visibility for training. The instructors are experienced in guiding divers through these advanced skills, providing valuable insights and ensuring a safe and rewarding experience.
Upon successful completion of the PADI Advanced Open Water Diver course, you will be certified to dive to a maximum depth of 30 meters. This certification opens up a wider range of dive sites and experiences globally, allowing you to explore deeper wrecks, vibrant reefs, and encounter a greater diversity of marine creatures. It represents a significant step for any diver looking to expand their capabilities and deepen their exploration of the underwater world.
