Especialidad Barcos Hundidos
Offered by Blue Bottom Diving
Costa Adeje, Santa Cruz de Tenerife
Course Description
Blue Bottom Diving includes three wrecks in its usual dive rotation: El Condesito, Los Gemelos, and El Meridian. The Wreck Specialty uses these wrecks as a training ground, offering students dives on real structures instead of purpose-built training environments. The centre describes the wrecks as 'fascinating windows into the past', a pretty apt description for remains that have already had time to become true artificial reefs.
The specialty follows the SSI programme and covers the principles of responsible wreck penetration, buoyancy control around fragile structures, navigation and guiding techniques. The wrecks off Costa Adeje vary in profile, giving the course practical range across different entry points, depths and internal configurations.
Boats reach the wrecks as part of the daily trip programme: the same logistics and safety device applies as on all guided dives. Oxygen and first aid kit are on board, a skipper remains on the surface, and the centre’s crew handles equipment pre and post-dive. Rental gear is available, including both aluminium and steel MARES cylinders.
For those who want to progress towards technical wreck diving, the centre also offers the Sidemount and XR Nitrox specialties, which naturally combine with more advanced penetration work on larger structures.
