Course Description
The PADI Divemaster course at Tofo Scuba is your first step into a professional diving career, transforming a passion for the underwater world into a viable profession. This extensive program is designed for individuals who not only love diving but are eager to share that enthusiasm by guiding and mentoring others. As a certified PADI Divemaster, you will develop advanced dive knowledge, hone your leadership abilities, and acquire the essential skills to supervise diving activities and assist PADI Instructors with student training. You’ll become a role model for recreational divers, demonstrating a high level of competence and professionalism.
This rigorous program combines in-depth knowledge development with practical application. You will participate in waterskills exercises, workshops, and hands-on assessments designed to refine your abilities. Mastering skills like the effortless hover and perfecting rescue techniques to anticipate and solve common problems are central to the curriculum. Topics covered include the role and characteristics of a PADI Divemaster, supervising dive activities, assisting with student divers, diver safety, risk management, and the business of diving. Practical workshops include mapping an open water site, conducting effective dive briefings, organizing search and recovery projects, leading a deep dive, conducting scuba reviews, and assisting with Discover Scuba Diving programs.
To begin the PADI Divemaster course, you need a minimum of 40 logged dives, with certification requiring at least 60 dives. Prerequisites include being at least 18 years old, holding a PADI Rescue Diver certification, current EFR training (within the past 24 months), and a medical statement signed by a physician within the last 12 months. Tofo Scuba emphasizes the professional nature of this level, requiring candidates to possess their own essential gear, including a wetsuit, fins, mask, snorkel, hood, dive computer, DSMB and reel, slate, rash vest, shaker/tank banger, and a stainless steel carabiner. These items are not available for rent.
For those undertaking the Divemaster program, Tofo Scuba offers dedicated accommodation in a spacious 5-bedroom house. This facility features en-suite bathrooms, communal areas, and a fully equipped kitchen, fostering a strong community environment among interns. Its location is a short walk from the beach and town, making it convenient for both diving and exploring the local area.
