Especialidad Profunda y Descompresión
Offered by Merak Diving
Maó, Illes Balears
Course Description
The SSI Deep and Decompression specialty at Merak Diving costs €300 and covers diving beyond standard recreational limits, including decompression stop procedures. It is the logical prerequisite for accessing deeper wrecks on Merak's program.
The Junker 88, at 46m, and the Santa Clara, at the same depth, are both listed as expert-only sites. The Malakoff wreck lies at 35–38m. Holding the deep and decompression certification changes which sites are accessible on the Merak boat. The usual good visibility in Menorca—repeatedly highlighted in the website's site descriptions—makes deep dives more manageable here in terms of orientation and navigation.
The course includes both theory and in-water training. Holding a valid Advanced Open Water certification (or SSI equivalent) is the usual prerequisite for deep specialty training. Merak Diving's ITC status means the instructor teaching this course holds advanced teaching credentials.
