Course Description

The Altitude Diving specialty course at Bamboo Reef offers a focused approach to the unique environmental conditions found at higher elevations. This program is designed to equip divers with the knowledge and skills necessary to safely plan and execute dives in high-altitude lakes and reservoirs. Participants will learn about the physiological effects of altitude on divers, understand the differences in water properties, and master techniques for adjusting dive computers and buoyancy control. The course typically involves practical sessions conducted in local high-altitude bodies of water, allowing for direct application of learned principles under the guidance of certified instructors. Bamboo Reef, a NAUI, SDI, and SSI training facility, ensures that all training adheres to rigorous international standards, preparing divers for the specific challenges and rewards of exploring these elevated aquatic environments.

While specific dive site details for altitude training are site-dependent and may vary, the core curriculum focuses on risk management and equipment considerations pertinent to diving above 1000 feet (300 meters). This specialty is crucial for divers looking to explore renowned high-altitude destinations worldwide. The course emphasizes understanding how reduced atmospheric pressure affects gas absorption and decompression, and how to compensate for these factors. By completing this specialty, divers gain the confidence to explore breathtaking underwater landscapes that are inaccessible to those not trained in altitude diving techniques. Bamboo Reef's multilingual staff, fluent in English, Spanish, Portuguese, and Russian, ensures a comfortable learning experience for a diverse range of students.
