Deep Diver
Offered by Bamboo Reef Dive Centers
Monterey, CA
Course Description
The Bamboo Reef Deep Diver specialty course is designed to extend your underwater exploration capabilities beyond the standard recreational limits. This program focuses on the critical skills needed for safe and enjoyable diving at depths between 60 feet (20 meters) and 130 feet (40 meters), the maximum allowed for this certification. You will learn advanced techniques for gas management, including understanding your air consumption at greater depths and planning your dives accordingly. The course emphasizes recognizing and managing potential nitrogen narcosis and decompression sickness risks, along with proper emergency procedures specific to deep diving scenarios. Practical training typically involves two open water dives, conducted at sites chosen by Bamboo Reef to best illustrate deep diving principles and challenges, under the guidance of their certified instructors. This specialty is offered through NAUI, SDI, and SSI, allowing you to choose the certification agency that best suits your diving progression.
While specific dive site details and monthly climate data for Bamboo Reef's location are not provided in the input, deep diving often opens up access to different marine ecosystems and geological formations not visible at shallower depths. Depending on the region, this could include deeper reefs, wrecks, or walls teeming with specialized marine life adapted to lower light conditions. Divers pursuing this specialty should be prepared for potential changes in water temperature and visibility as depth increases, which are factors to consider when selecting appropriate thermal protection and equipment. The skills acquired in the Deep Diver course are foundational for further technical diving pursuits and provide a more comprehensive understanding of the underwater environment.
