Course Description

The PADI Open Water Diver certification at Sea Star Diving provides the foundational skills and knowledge for independent exploration up to 18 meters. This comprehensive program typically spans four days, integrating theoretical knowledge development, confined water skills practice, and four open water dives. The course is designed to build confidence and competence in a safe, controlled environment, preparing you for the underwater world. Sea Star Diving is a PADI-certified center, ensuring adherence to global diving education standards.

Knowledge development, covering manuals, reviews, quizzes, and a final exam, can be completed via PADI e-Learning, estimated at 10-15 hours. This flexible approach allows self-paced study before or upon arrival at the center. Confined water sessions take place in shallow water, where instructors guide you through essential diving techniques. The subsequent open water dives apply these skills at local dive sites, often accessed by boat, allowing you to experience the marine environment firsthand.

The four-day schedule is structured for progressive learning, often starting with confined water skills and a first open water dive (max 12m) on Day 1, and culminating with final open water dives (max 18m) on Day 4. This schedule is adaptable to weather conditions and individual student progress. As per Maldivian law, a 24-hour surface interval is recommended before flying after your last dive. The total course fee is EUR 631.80, inclusive of e-learning materials, dive gear rental, boat fees, instructor fees, transport to the dive sites, amenities, and government taxes.

Prerequisites include being at least 10 years old, possessing basic swimming abilities (float/tread water for 10 minutes, swim 200-300 meters), and completing a medical statement, with potential doctor's approval required. Full payment is typically needed in advance for e-learning access, with a 5% bank fee for card payments. Registration involves providing personal details and preferred dates; arriving a day early is recommended for paperwork and gear fitting. Sea Star Diving, located in the North Malé Atoll, offers a supportive learning atmosphere for aspiring divers.
