Course Description

The SSI Stress & Rescue specialty course offered by Rhea Dive is meticulously crafted to equip divers with the essential knowledge and practical abilities needed to anticipate, recognize, and manage dive-related stress and emergencies. This program focuses on developing a diver's capacity to identify potential stressors in themselves and their fellow divers, and to implement effective strategies to prevent minor issues from escalating into serious incidents. By mastering these skills, participants significantly enhance their ability to provide assistance to others, becoming a more confident and capable dive buddy.

The curriculum integrates theoretical learning with extensive hands-on practice, conducted in both controlled pool environments and open water settings. Students will engage in a variety of rescue techniques, including scenarios for assisting tired divers, those experiencing panic, and unresponsive individuals. Simulated emergency situations are a core component, designed to build proficiency and confidence in handling critical moments effectively.

Key prerequisites for enrollment include being at least 12 years old (with specific age-related restrictions up to 15 years), holding an Open Water Diver certification or its equivalent, and having successfully completed a React First Aid course or a comparable first aid certification within the past two years. A medical declaration is also mandatory. The practical component of the course comprises three dedicated open water sessions.

Upon successful completion of this specialty, divers will possess invaluable skills that directly contribute to safer diving practices for themselves and their companions. It cultivates a proactive mindset towards safety and empowers individuals with the competence to manage challenging situations, thereby making them a highly valued asset to any diving group.
