Curso SSI Open Water

The SSI Open Water Diver course at Manta Diving Lanzarote offers a structured pathway to certification, designed for beginners. The program includes six confined water dives conducted in the sheltered, marine-life-rich waters of Playa Chica bay. There, you'll master essential diving skills such as mask clearing, buoyancy control, and emergency procedure execution, building a solid foundation of confidence. This is followed by four open water dives in the sea, to which Manta Diving Lanzarote kindly adds a fifth recreational dive at no extra charge. These dives progress in depth, reaching a maximum of 18 meters for divers aged 12 and above (12 meters for younger participants aged 10-11), providing a comprehensive introduction to underwater exploration. The course typically runs from 8:30 AM to 1:00 PM on the first and third days, with an additional afternoon session on the second day, optimizing learning within a three-day timeframe.

Lanzarote's waters provide a pleasant diving environment, with average sea temperatures hovering around 20.5°C year-round, suitable for diving across various months. For instance, sea temperatures in August can reach 24.2°C, while even in January, they remain a comfortable 19.5°C. This consistent warmth, coupled with generally low rainfall (averaging 2.1 mm in February and 0 mm in September), creates ideal conditions for maximizing in-water practice time. The shallow, marine-rich bay of Playa Chica offers a safe and stimulating setting for initial skill development, while open water dives expose students to the diverse marine life typical of the Canary Islands.

Manta Diving Lanzarote, an SSI-certified center, delivers this course in multiple languages, including German, English, Spanish, French, Italian, and Portuguese, ensuring accessibility to a diverse international audience. The center utilizes the MySSI app for digital theory, allowing participants to complete the academic portion prior to arrival, thus maximizing practical time in Lanzarote. The course package includes digital student materials, a Manta Diving t-shirt, insurance for the duration of the course, full equipment rental, underwater photos as a memento of your achievement, and a digital logbook. A complimentary recreational dive is included upon successful course completion, and prior SSI Basic Diver recognition can be credited towards this course, potentially offering a discount for further training.

This SSI Open Water Diver certification is intended for individuals aged 10 and above who are in general good health and comfortable in the water. A basic swimming proficiency test, comprising a 10-minute float or tread water and a 200-meter swim or 300-meter snorkel, is required to ensure water competence. The course structure emphasizes progressive skill development, moving from confined water drills to open water experience, including both shore and boat dives. The use of the center's own trimaran for some dives adds a unique dimension to the learning experience, offering exposure to different diving scenarios. Upon completion, you'll be qualified to dive with a buddy to a maximum depth of 18 meters anywhere in the world.
