Open Water Diver

The Open Water Diver at Kron Diving runs over 4 days and covers the full SSI certification that allows independent diving worldwide. Theory is completed via SSI Online Training before you arrive at the center in Kampor Bay, then refreshed in person at the base. Skills work happens in the protected bay, where the conditions are calm and the instructors can focus on technique without current or surge getting in the way.

Once skills are signed off, 4 open water dives take place around the island of Rab. The dive sites around Rab include wall dives with colored sponges and gorgonian fields, so the training dives are not spent in a featureless pool — they're real dives on real sites. The center runs more than 25 sites accessible in 5 to 30 minutes by speedboat.

Minimum age is 10 years old. A medical certificate may be requested. The center has children's equipment on site for younger participants. The team speaks German, English, Croatian, Italian, and Spanish, so instruction can run in the language most comfortable for the student.

Kron Diving holds SSI Instructor Training Center status, which means the instructors here train other instructors — the level of SSI engagement is higher than at a standard recreational center. For a first certification on Croatia's Kvarner coast, this is a solid base to do it from.
