Offered by MacroiDive | Buceo Tossa
Tossa de Mar, Girona
Course Description
The PADI Deep Diver specialty course, offered by MacroDive, is designed specifically for certified divers who want to safely extend their exploration beyond usual recreational limits. This program focuses on mastering the procedures and techniques needed to dive to depths of 40 meters, a significant increase from the typical 18-meter limit for an Open Water Diver. You will learn about proper dive planning, equipment considerations for deeper environments, and how to manage physiological effects associated with increased pressure, such as nitrogen narcosis. The course typically lasts 2 to 3 days, combining theoretical knowledge with practical application.
Theoretical modules cover essential topics such as advanced gas planning for deep dives, decompression theory, recognizing and mitigating nitrogen narcosis, and specific emergency protocols for deep diving. These sessions are complemented by four open water dives under the direct supervision of your PADI instructor. During these dives, you will progressively increase depth, practicing learned skills in a controlled and safe manner. The PADI certification you will receive is globally recognized, allowing you to responsibly explore a wider range of dive sites, including deeper wrecks and vibrant coral reefs.
To take this specialty, you must be at least 15 years old and hold a PADI Advanced Open Water Diver certification or equivalent. A valid medical certificate, no older than two years, confirming your fitness to dive is mandatory. Dive insurance is also required, and MacroDive can assist you in obtaining it if you don't have one. For registration, you will need to provide a copy of your ID/NIE and a passport-sized photograph.
This specialty is a logical progression for divers seeking access to more challenging and rewarding dive sites. It significantly broadens your capabilities and opens up a wider range of underwater environments. Many divers combine the Deep Diver specialty with other PADI specialties, such as Wreck Diver or Enriched Air Diver, to further enrich their diving experience and explore the underwater world with greater confidence and skill. The average sea temperature in the area, according to historical data, is around 19.1°C, making it suitable for diving with appropriate thermal protection for a good part of the year.
