Scuba Diver

The SSI Scuba Diver is the option Hidrospot recommends for people who want a proper introduction to diving but can't commit to the full Open Water Diver schedule. Three theory sessions, three pool sessions, and two sea dives — enough to get comfortable underwater and earn a certification that works in open water under professional supervision.

The two sea dives take place in Portuguese Atlantic waters, which means real conditions rather than sheltered tropical reefs. Learning buoyancy control and basic skills here prepares you for diving anywhere. The Scuba Diver certification can be upgraded to the full SSI Open Water Diver with additional training, so it's not a dead end.

Hidrspot has been running courses in this area since 2010, and the instructors — several of whom also hold skipper qualifications — know which sites work for different experience levels. The course is taught in Portuguese.

For divers who later want the full independent certification, the Scuba Diver serves as a solid foundation that can be built on without repeating ground already covered.
